Don't Believe the Truth (Epic)
Greg Kot Published June 10, 2005
The Brit-pop superstars' sixth album begins and ends with half-hearted melodies distinguished only by how transparently they rip off their influences. "Mucky Fingers" doesn't even try to escape the shadow of the Velvet Underground's "Waiting for the Man." "Lyla," the album's first single, is a tepid reminder of past glories. Would-be anthems "Keep the Dream Alive" and "Let There Be Love" drag the album to a close. The keepers are sandwiched in the middle: Liam Gallager's lyrically shallow but musically glorious "Love Like a Bomb," a guitar-driven waltz sent soaring by a piano break, and Noel Gallagher's "Importance of Being Idle," which qualifies as first-rate homage to the Kinks' dancehall pop. On the Latin-fired groove of "Part of the Queue," Noel Gallager sings, "Every beginning has broken its promise." The same could be said of Oasis, whose first two blockbuster albums set a standard it hasn't come close to matching since.

I kinda figured someone would get Noel on that Line Every Begginning has Broken its promise.... that is a very good metaphor for Oasis in the US

The difference of course being that Oasis was really arrogant when they came over here and pissed off a LOT of people. Most people think of Liam as a jerk and the whole band as a bunch of stand offish aresholes.
The difference is these vaginas listen to Oasis LOOKING for flaws, looking for influences, looking for any reason they can criticize them and cut them down to size. Put them in their place. And with Coldplay it's the opposite, they are so harmless and nice they just try and try and try to enjoy the music as much as possible. An Oasis album has to be 10 times better for most american reviewers to get past these prejudices. Don't Believe the Truth is probably 7 or 8 times better.

Not one fucking band from the US is in the league of oasis.

wow, this review is way off ! This album - it moves me - I feel it ! this writer needs to come to my "school of rock "for a refresher course. but obviously he has NO EAR for real music. that's too bad he missed the point of all the songs and doesn't get it. I have long since "moved on" from WTSMG. impossible to write a sequel that that. oh well

I agree 100%. I mean Oasis is what got me to pick up the guitar, got me passionate about music. I can't imagine what band in the US would do that to people now. There is no other band that is such a great interview, has such a great catalogue, rocks as hard, the b-sides, the stories, everything. The only other band I see people real passionate about is U2 but they came on the scene about 15 years earlier.

Plain and simple- the guy doesn't like Oasis (specifically Liam and Noel) so he wrote a shit review. What he should do is get over the fact that he was picked on in high school by people who were cooler than he was...fuckin' idiot.
