According to Hits Daily Double (now remember Celine Dion has sold a crap load too)
Coldplay's X&Y may sell close to 700,000 in the U.S. this week alone!!!! The people that are buying that buy 1-2 albums a year like Soccer Moms that love Gwyneth!
Marketing, Marry Gwyneth, play nice to U.S. media and fans and finally have some decent songs.
There ya go.
Just imagine if Oasis had played nice during MG and finished the massive N. American tour then released BHN with the following songs on it.
Acquiesce, Masterplan, Stay Young, Whatever along w/ Stand By Me, Don't Go Away & DYKWIM.
Played nice again on BHN tour w/ U.S. media.
That would have BLOWN away X&Y.
Then again it wouldn't be our fightin' Oasis boys would it!!!!
I'll take it like it is.

If Oasis did all those things they wouldn't be Oasis. I'm very happy with the band, I couldn't care less how many albums they sell.

I wouldn't want them to change. You know, I was thinking along those same lines just yesterday and came to the conclusion that, what makes Oasis, Oasis, is their unpredictability, explosivness. Oasis is a combustable rock and roll extravaganza, but that being said, of course, if they were charming and satirical they would sell better in the US. Possibly outselling Coldplay, and not to mention U2 for that matter. It's all about the music and don't tell me that 'Speed of Sound,' 'What If,' or 'The Message' come anywhere near 'GGTIA,' TIOBI,' or 'LTBL.' It's the gift and the curse of Oasis, but the good thing is that our boys aren't worried about outselling anyone, just making better music than them.

Oasis have done what Coldplay are about to do and more! 23 Million of WTSMG, 4.5 million in the US, i don't think coldplay are gonna sell more than that? Eminem 50 cent and usher are the biggest sellers in the world at the moment but there numbers ain't touched oasis' in there heyday (And are still one of the biggest selling bands worldwide) Big 1st week sales aren't what makes a band its longevity, WTSMG didn't make an impact in the US at all upon its release it gradually got bigger and bigger with each hard hitting single (Wonderwall, DLBIA, CS.) And what makes Oasis special in many peoples eyes is exactly what you wrote, The attitude, Music, The whole package is what makes me and you love em. Cheers doggboy

You can just tell by watching Liam's attitude that he's gonna do or say something horrible. I fucking love that. I mean I really fucking love and respect that. That is how you must act to be a real rock n' roll star. I know I refer to this a lot, but his finest hour was at the TRL show for MTV in the US. This is the Epicentre of shitty American pop culture. At the middle of the interview going out to millions of Americans Liam went: “Are we done yet”. This indeed was his finest hour.

They stayed true to themselves when they went to the US, something very few bands manage, and still made a huge dent in the country, and as a lot of people on this forum can verify, touched a lot of hearts doing it.
Nothing about Oasis and the US should be regretted.

Oasis are fucking awesome the way they are. Their shit wasn't good for marketing, but they're not fuckers looking how to take advantage of capitalism and marketing in order to be huge. They play the songs, they release the songs. If people like the songs, they buy them. If they don't, they have bad taste in music ;D
