andPOP) - Believe this: The much anticipated "Don't Believe in the Truth," the first new Oasis album in three years, will debut on the Billboard charts next week at number 12. The Billboard album chart measures album sales in the U.S. The album is expected to debut much higher in the UK. The album sold about 65,000 copies in its first week out. The last Oasis album sold just over 50,000 in its first week, and went on to sell over 200,000 copies. "Don't Believe in the Truth" is actually the highest selling new album of the week. Mariah Carey and her "Emancipation of Mimi" album returns to the top spot after being out for several weeks now. Oasis are currently on tour. www.andpop.com/article/4254

Is this a positive article? Normally when you say that something "falls flat" it is negative. #12 is pretty damn good. The wording of the title of this article makes no sense to me. Does anyone understand?

I think it's a negative perspective. Probably some people expected that the album will do better....unfortunaly it didn't...
And while we're at it...why does people buy Mariah Carey??!...she sucks...and ''The Emancipation Of Mimi''??...what kind of crappy title is that??...and her new song sounds exactly as any other song she has done...

Because 13 year old girls buy music they can dance to...that is why people like Mariah Carey and Britney Spears are always on the top of the charts. I dont know why they dont just break it out into the individual categories.

yeah...i thought 12 is pretty damned good =S lol, considering this is the band that severely pissed of mtv by spitting on stage and callign their interviewer a transvestite or soemthing like that, walking out on tours, and refusing to suck up to all the suits.....so yes, im impressed

For a band that most Americans, excluding us on this forum, haven't cared about since the mid-90's, number 12 is a pretty good debut. I know I did my part for the boys here in the states. ;D

i have lost all faith in american culture and in the record buying public , its all quite sad Kalas buddy, screw what others think and live for yourself. If you like Oasis, blast it in the face of others who have their heads stuck up their asses. If they don't like, piss on them, they don't deserve to have the ability to hear if they can't recognize great music. Most of us here love Oasis, not because the media tells us we should, but because we know what great music is.

#12 debut... best album position in the USA since WTSMG, 15K more albums in its debut week than the last album, and the headline says it "falls flat". What the hell more can they reasonably expect?? How in the hell can they call that "falling flat"?

Let's say they rock MSG like you've never seen before ...is that enough to get the sales going? I really don't know if even that would be enough to generate the kind of hype they need. Maybe if they air it on MTV during primetime.

HC debuted at #24 and sold 144 000 copies total.
DBTT debuted at #12 and sold 68 000 copies in it's first week.
Lyla is getting good airplay. DBTT has been getting mostly very good reviews by fans and critics alike(even in the US). So what is there to be negative about?! DBTT is fantastic, a complete album. I think debuting at #12 in the US is very good. DBTT also debuted at #3 in Canada(they could have got even higher but a lot of shops did not stock enough albums and ran out pretty quickly.) HC debuted at #5 in Canada.

Sick of this!!!! Look who is outselling them. You can't beat Pop Tarts and yes Coldplay will be huge with their 3rd best album off of hype from the previous two and they have become media darlings. Why do we laugh at the charts and then want Oasis #1 in U.S. I am sure there is some fans of Heavy Metal looking at the charts right now and going through 1-20 going 'look at this crap!!'. "Rap, Pop, Country and Oasis (aren't thye broken up)? Beatles rip -offs!" When is some true Heavy Metal gonna chart. #12 was great considering 'Lyla' made a decent run but never even made it to the top 15 on MODERN ROCK charts let alone the overall chart. It HAS TO BE AIRPLAY GUYS. Unless you are at the prime of your career like Oasis was when BHN came out NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY (compare 1st week BHN sales in UK to DBTT) it will take a HIT SINGLE to push more over a weeks time. #12 is great and I hope it continues to sell consistently. When they come over here in a couple of weeks they need to decide to play 'Lyla' on promotional stuff like radio and Letterman OR play the next single. I have only bought one bands cd each time bar DM the first week it came out and that's Oasis. Why do we think Oasis fans that aren't die hard or Oasis isn't their favorite are gonna rush out and get it first week. Oasis fans are older in the States and unless they are like us on here they probably will get it in due time. I'll probably get Coldplay (burned a copy of last one) but I won't get it this week. I am gonna get Kings of Leon new one cuz I have the first but the second has been out a couple of months now. Charts!

There are WAY more than 70,000 Oasis fans in U.S., they just didn't go out and get it first week.
I bumped into a guy that loves Oasis (fave is HC??) anyway I told him I was flying up to see them in Boston and he was like 'they are on tour?"
He didn't even know album was out. I told him to go to best buy.
Now you can rag on him all u want and not call him a 'true' oasis fan, but maybe most fans don't log onto a fan website like we do EVERYDAY and have every b-side and live version etc.....
Except for Oasis i do not own every cd any band has made if they have at least 4 cd's.
Almost all U2, almost all Charlatans UK etc.
I have no b sides for any other group etc.
Soooo my point is maybe we shouldn't worry about 1st week sales.
I like Coldplay and I won't pick it up for awhile I am sure.
I still don't have Kings Of Leon new one yet.
The BHN push is over. Let this album grow!!
