Back in 1994 this band of normal looking blokes and one geniune rock star were on the cover of NME. They talked a big game like a lot of other bands had done and were a breath of fresh air in a shoe-gazing world. But what they did was unleash a true punk record, but with better quality, meaning and passion than anything the 70s could throw up. Every gig became a life-changing event, every interview threw up more passion, we had our new heroes. You didn't give a shit, you said what you thought, and in a world where everyone was desperate to be liked, you went out of your way to rattle everyone, and my god did you have the songs to back it up. Every new single unleashed new classic b-sides and new anthems to sing along to. Then came Morning Glory, and suddenly middle england loved you and wanted your record, and America loved you and wanted your record, but you never changed, you stilll rattled people, you still didn't give a shit you were still our band, and touched people all over the world as well, all without ever giving up and igonoring your roots. You were still the working class lads I fell in love with. Even a drug-fuelled weekend at Knebworth in front of hangers-on couldn't break that unique bond.
Now, 10 years on, in an even more Nanny State of people who don't want anyone to hate anyone, Coldplay are the band middle england want. But their fans will never know what it really means to love a band, to seek out every gig they've played and to hang on their every word cos 10 years on and millions of pounds later they're still one of us.
Oasis, or more importantly, Liam and Noel, you still mean more to real people than any other band could dream of, your legacy will live on longer than any other band at the moment could dream of, you're still number 1, and your new album is the best this year.
LONG LIVE OASIS!!!!!!!

agree with every word. I learned how to play guitar because of them. Before Oasis came along, only weird, outcasts with long hair and black clothing played music. This is gonna sound kinda lame, but Oasis gave me permission to play. Suddenly it was cool to play guitar. Simply put, they changed my life.

The reason I write songs and am in a band is partly because I was inspired by Liam and, more importantly, Noel. I would never have picked up a guitar without them, and for that reason alone (quite aside from all the brilliant music they have made) they have changed my life massively.
