Obviously. I hope that he will have a low down, 'cos it's this which makes the difference. Surely the tetris band will have number 1 next week, but who cares!

cold play will 100% be number one next week look at this from the daily mirror in the UK
4 June 2005 COLDPLAY ALBUM IS A RECORD By Fiona Cummins
COLDPLAY'S new release X&Y is the most-ordered album ever on the Amazon website.
It has been at the top of its 100 Albums chart since March 15, when it became available for order.
Yesterday it took the record held for nearly two years by Dido's Life for Rent.
Amazon would not release sales figures for Coldplay's third album, which hits the shops on Monday.

Music editor Helen Marquis said: "The fact that the orders for Coldplay's X&Y have surpassed those of Dido's Life for Rent - a feat no other band has been able to accomplish for nearly two years - shows just how excited fans are ."

Incidentally, Life For Rent was the fastest selling album in the UK since Be Here Now.
So this Coldplay album is gonna be HUGE as Morning Glory huge.

Isn't the UK Record for consecutive number 1 albums 8 in a row? Oasis are already at 6, if (when) they get a new record deal I reckon we could at least match that. Another record for the lads.

Two groups have had unbroken runs of 8 chart-toppers. They are Led Zeppelin (from "Led Zeppelin 2" in 1969 to "In Through The Out Door" in 1979) and Abba (from "Greatest Hits" in 1976 to "The Singles - The First Ten Years" in 1982)
I'm not sure if The Masterplan may rule Oasis out, although it isn't technically an album, it still featured in the album charts.

Isn't U2 bigger than Oasis? Probably, which is amazing since they stoped making music years and years ago. I don't think Coldplay will be that big though, they're already getting a lot more bad reviews (fair or not), which means their popularity tends to decline. jmo.

i think x & y will easly sell over 4 million in the uk, and imo will be in the top 3 selling along with morning glory and sgt pepper - cus this will be the album that all those people who buy 1 albums a year will buy

Well 4 X & Y they will need a wonderwalll quality song to bring it into mass numbers. But albums don't sell that big these days. They will sell maybe 2-3 mill but thats it. Coldplay aren't anywhere near as popular now as Oasis were at their peak in 1995-1996. Oasis were almost beatle-like in popularity so it will take a lot for coldplay to get into 4mill.

I don't think reviews skew a person's decision to buy or not to buy an album the majority of the time.

i cant see coldplay selling wtsmg numbers for all the above reasons ... that was a watershed moment in music that occurs every 20 or so years ,,while coldplays album will sell mega it will not touch wtsmg...take that to the bank....there is not the buzz in the air for coldplay that OASIS created from 94 -96..it will outsell DBTT but it wont touch wtsmg I DONT EVENTHINK IT WILL TOUCH BHN the 8 million copies sold failure

It won't beat BHN because as you and I said Kalas Oasis were a phenomenon. They were up there with the beatles and mj in terms of anticipation.

They do appeal to chicks a lot more, as they have the whole harmless bed-wetters thing going on. That's a plus sales-wise for them. I don't know how telling that Amazon thing is. I mean buying on the internet has only hit the masses in the last few years and there haven't been any really massive albums in awhile. What was the biggest selling album last year, Scissor Sisters? No blockbuster there.

They were up there with the beatles and mj in terms of anticipation. very true..beatles, zep, and in america the guns and roses double lp use your illusion 1 and 2 (and mj but hes not rock so i dont count him but he can move lps) are the only artists that create such a "buzz" coldplay will sell incredible as u2 did but at the end of the day there are only so many revolvers , wtsmg,zep4,that will guarantee record turnouts...look at bhn it still outsold u2s latest in the uk and yet it gets slagged on as shit and vertigo is labeled brilliant ,well judging by lp sale BHN pissed on it that shows the selling power OASIS had in there prime ,coldplay wont reach that cause if they would have reached that plateu it would have occured already , there next lp will be number 4 and watch how " fans" tire of the same type of song that chris churns out.. yes he can write a good tune but it sounds so similiar to his others that after this lp people will want something different and sales are bound to dip , like all bands..jmo
