From Contact Music
British rockers OASIS are confident their new album DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUTH will secure their position as "the best band in the world".
The band's frontmen NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER are furious about reports they will never repeat the success they enjoyed in their mid-1990s heyday, insisting their latest disc will surpass the popularity of their smash first and second CDs, DEFINITELY MAYBE and (WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY.
Noel says, "We're still the best band in the world. Don't Believe the Truth is our best album since Morning Glory.
Liam adds, "It's miles better than Definitely Maybe." 02/06/2005 11:06

note the change to 'best band' and not the 'biggest band' they used to rant about.
something it appears, the writer of the article hasnt picked up on - is that distinction from being the 'best' and being the 'biggest'
cos didnt even liam concede a couple weeks ago that they probably wouldnt be as big as they were in the nineties??
but that is not contradictory to saying that 'well, we still are the best' cos thats not measured quantitatively - i mean, as proven by the likes of britney spears you can be huge but still not be anywhere close to being the best, so it works both ways
-groans- why do they always compare albums to DM. no band can touch that, not even themselves so LEAVE IT ALONE!

about my previous post, i did realise that there is the possiblilty that it was taken from a bigger interview where they explicity said that they will become bigger than ever after DBTTs release. but i have yet to come across it.
in anycase, my point is that the quotes from liam and noel do not back up the rest of the article.

Well said. Although I do happen to like DBTT as much, if not more, than DM. It may not be 'bigger' than DM, but it is much 'better.'

lol, i suppose i was referring to the 'importance' of that record as much as i was referring to how much i like DM (but yeah, i personally do happen to like it more) DBTT is ridiculoulsy good though it amazes me that despite all my expectations, it STILL managed to meet them and in ways surpass them. it was worth the wait!

Yeah, this record is phenomanal. I can't listen to anything else at this point. But I still prefer definatly maybe.
With all this contradictory remarks from the Gallaghers, I am beginning to be confused. I wonder if the press is just making up quotes?

Noel says, "We're still the best band in the world. Don't Believe the Truth is our best album since Morning Glory. Correction: best album since DM. lyla is right, I can't believe a person who doesn't know the difference between the two could be a writer.

DBTT is much better then DM. What's the story was also better then DM because it is the most overrated Oasis album I think.
Believe me I love Def Maybe but people talk about it, like it overshadows the other albums. The last album is technically and musically much better. The drums are better, the guitarplaying is better and yes the songs are better. Only Liam's voiced has changed, but haven't all or voices changed over the years? I like his voice, it is more mature I guess.
The new Oasis album is the album where people will be talking about for many years. They took the freekick and smashed it into the net.
