hey Noel lovers.. Noel I think may have come "full circle." Was driving today and realized (not the 1st person) that when he wrote RockNRoll star - "I live my life in the city.." and he cldn't wait to get out of the city (Manchester obviously) and make some $$$. So then he went to London - was overwhelmed by it all, made a FORTUNE and became a rock/pop star and essentially a "household name", well in my place anyway.. So as you know, in POTQ, he is now residing in London and expressing his desire to get out of there. Suddenly I found I lost my way in the city I'm having trouble just finding some soul in this town... The names on the faces in places they mean nothing to me.. etc etc. I think he is becoming more grounded as years go by. I think he came back to some of his roots 4 this album. and that may be partly why his songs are INCREDIBLE !!! I heard him talking about taking his daughter to Manchester because he wanted to show Anais where he comes from. I just thought that was way cool. Like he knows the deal in life. he hasn't forgotten where he is from. that is important. What do ya think ? If interested in posting..

It supports the belief that he writes best when he is not happy with his situation "good music is made in bad times" so hes sick of the city and being famous, and here comes another GREAT album...i hope his life stays miserable ;D

Yeah thats definitely true, just look at what happened to Beck after he got dumped, same with Third Eye Blind after stephen jenkins got divorced. But thats an interesting connection, as somone said it's food for thought

I am in my 30's like my beloved Noel. It's a great age, you realize what is important , get somewhat more comfortable with yourself AND often , maybe not 100% of time, you actually don't give a sh** - what others say or think and MEAN IT for once in yer life .. each age and stage - pros and cons.. me rambling.. I am banging on about my geezerhood. LOL ! ciao

Noel said in an interview a while back with Steve Lamacq (believe it was around the time of the Definitely Maybe dvd release) that Mucky Fingers was kind of about how American culture has such a grip on people in London these days and how he always sees men and boys with baseball caps and basketball and football jerseys and such. They're trying to dress like rappers and Americans and not representing what it is to be English. Then he made a comment about how if he had a son that came home from school wearing a baseball cap, he would tell him to take it off, or he would have to go back and live with his mom.

Noel does dress way cooler than any american bloke though. I agree !

There is lots of contempt in Noel's songs and satire. Love it !

Yeah thats pretty observant of you...He's come a long way form "Half The World Away" which i think is a song that could have the same sentiment as Rock N Roll Star being that he he wants to get away from Manchester...I guess the old adage of "Theres no place like home" always rings true

Great Perspective! That explains the slight dip in quality of noels songwriting from 97-2002/3..though i thought bhn was still top

Iamthe walrus.. yeah you're right, even though of course I love BHN as well !
So as you may know, on the dualdisc "The ear has no memory.." part Noel said POTQ was inspired/triggered by being ticked off in a line , waiting to pay for a pint !
