How possible is it for Oasis to get #1 in the USA this week? Who is their competition? How many records would they have to sell?
With all the promotion surrounding them, do you think it's possible for one week? Or at least #5?

Top 5 is not possible. There is not really that much promotion surrounding them. They are getting very little radio play.(top 20 alternative play does not mean much, since for every 25 alternative radio station in the states maybe 1 is an alternative station)
Keep in mind that SOTSG I think was about 23 its first week(if memory serves me correctly) and GLIO got more radio and video play then Lyla.
I hope i'm wrong, but don't get your hopes up.

I can tell you this. The albums that we're scheduled fro release on 5/31/05 in the U.S. we're from a lot of no name or adult jazz/classical artists. The only name I knew (and I like the band actually) was 'Better Than Ezra' Now the key is, is how will DBTT measure up with thealbums that are still floating around top 10 like: System of A Down (horrible) Dave Mathews Band Gwen Stefani 50 Cent Weezer They have all been out for numerous weeks. The notable new release are: Oasis (we know) Maximo Park ( ) Better Than Ezra - Before The Robots The Dead 60's-Self Titled Smog-River Ain't Too Much To Love Tosca-j.a.c. Those we're the 'notable' releases for 5/31/05. There are many more but they are mostly by obscure acts or re-realeses of bands like Jimi Hendrix, Cream etc. www.newmusictipsheet.com/2.htmlSo depending on how Oasis sells compared to the artists with cd's already out floating in the top 20, they could do very well.

I agree. It looks like Oasis has a good chance of breaking top 5. In my opinion DBTT is doing better than GLIO did. It already beat it on the charts.

GLIO was up to 12 on the modern rock charts if i remember correctly, also, I think your confusing the modern rock charts with the alternative radio charts.....
Maybe the good reviews will help this album sell better...... we'll see.

I've said it on these forums before, and I'll say it again…
If DBTT breaks in the top 20 during its first week in the US, I'll cook my shoe and eat it.
First week sales are all based on what people know about the band/artist, what their current "status" is, and I'm afraid that in the US, Oasis' current status is in the "these guys are still around?" category.
It doesn't matter that they sold out MSG. It doesn't matter that on some big radio station in Seattle or LA or Boston, "Lyla" climbed into the top 5 requested tunes or whatever. What the general record-buying public knows about this album is nil.
That's not to say it won't change, but I think the best we can hope for in terms of success in the US is for DBTT to float around in the top 100 for months, slowly, slowly, slowly selling copies until someone says, "hey, Oasis actually had something like a hit album in the US in 2005."

I think it would be more likely to be a slow burner. I mean in the US Be Here Now went in at number 2 didn't it? Then only ended up selling just over a million. Whereas Morning Glory peaked at #4 but sold over 4 million copies. So I think it'd be a better sign if they didn't enter that highly, and then gained strength with strong future singles like Let There be Love.

yea, we'd be lucky if it got in the top 20. they don't have alot of big releases this week....but still. i don't know where GLIO placed on the charts...but i definitely have heard Lyla alot more on the radio then GLIO. so that's a good thing. but we'll see. i think they will be a lil more popular after the second single as well.
- cheers !
