In my opinion, both Guess God Thinks i'm Abel and Love Like a Bomb are better than Songbird. They feel more relevent and more in your face. More adventurous. More beautiful. Heathen Chemistry was weak, with songs like better man and She is love. Anyone agree?

It's cool to be able to watch Liam's progression
Little James -> Songbird -> GGTIA
It's definitely getting better man

I agree with GGTIA and also LLAB. Songbird is a great song, but the songs that Liam wrote for DBTT are just a bit better.
Almost every song on DBTT is better then Heathen Chemistry. This album marks the progression of every member too, this is the best they've done in my opinion.

Speaking as a guy who just bought the album a few hours ago and has listened to it twice (I resisted the urge to get it off the web)…
Generally, I'm impressed with Liam's efforts on DBTT, but then again, I am NOT a fan of "Songbird," so in my view, he had plenty of room for improvement. However, Liam's songs leave me a little underwhelmed. To me, they seem like great ideas that don't really take off. "Born On A Different Cloud" from HC is a perfect example of this. It's pretty good (and it's a great title for a song), but it doesn't really go anywhere. You hear the first minute and you've pretty much heard the whole thing. He fares better on DBTT, but I find myself having a similar reaction. Afterwards, I think, "oh, that was nice. What's next?"
I realize that he's sharing album space with Noel, who even at his worst makes writing songs sound effortless. In my humble, Noel's songs still standout miles above anyone else's tunes on DBTT. If I were some record company exec listening to a copy of this album before anyone else had heard it, and charged with picking out potential singles, I wouldn't have hesitated to put "Lyla," "Importance…" and "Let There Be Love" on the shortlist — all Noel-penned songs. I don't know if those other two will wind up as singles, but like I said above, there's something about them that sounds effortless and immediate.
Not to denigrate any one else's songs on the album, of course. Overall, it's a very strong album.
Sorry. I got carried away with a mini-review here. Never mind.

what does this forum in general have against heathen chemistry...? it's fantastic, she is love is a great song, as is songbird, as is pretty much everything on the album with the possible exception of the andy bell tune. i am sure when HC came out you were all on here going on about how brilliant it was....

No arguments there. I just said I wasn't a fan of "Songbird" (I'm not a fan of "Little By Little," either). That said, HC has some great songs on it, and I rank "The Hindu Times" as one of Oasis' best "rocker" singles. You know what? I even like "Probably All In My Mind," which I've read plenty of people dissing on these forums.

I actually prefer songbird to all of Liam's tunes on this album.... I don't like how llab or ggtia end, and the lyrics of ggtia sort of annoy me. The line guess god thinks im abel just comes the hell out of nowhere. although they are both good tunes... \ I also love HC, I am really suprised how many reviewers are taking about how this is a comeback record, HC was excellent.

Man, that perfectly captures everything I've felt about that song for the last 3 years but have never been able to put it in to words! Cheers!

Still prefer Songbird to GGTIA and LLAB, although I love both of them. As Noel said last night the "No-one can take us, no-one can break us, if they tried" bit is heart-breaking, wish there was more of it in the song.

I would say that GGTIA is better, but not LLAB. Maybe it's just the recording on the album, but the way Liam's voice sounds on LLAB (far too raspy) spoil it a bit for me. Still a good song. Songbird is a great, beautiful song, I dunn owhat some people have against it.

Lucky Jim, I agree with what Alex said, I could never pinpoint exactly what it is about that song that didn't sit with me but I think you nailed it. The album just grinds to a halt for me once that song comes on. It doesn't really go anywhere at all. If there had been a different song at #10 or move Better Man to #10 and then an epic closer I think my impression of the album would be much different. Or even 2 songs after BOADC, but ending with BOADC and then Better Man just didn't do it for me.

I like GGTIA more, but Songbird is brilliant. So I wouldn't say it's much better.
