Hereby a topic to show your opinion about the new Oasis album "Don't Believe The Truth" song by song.
Here is mine :
After three years of waiting, finally Oasis has released there sixth album called "Don't Believe The Truth". More then a year to late. It was expected far more earlier. The problem at the time was that the songs they had written where not havin´it, and the sessions with indie- dance group Death In Vegas just didn't work out as well as Oasis wanted it. Was the waiting period worth it ? You can say a Strong "YES" to that.
DBTT is an album which sounds very ambitious and has a lot of inspiration. Something the most recent release before DBTT did not have. Heathen Chemistry sounded a bit soft and almost unwilling. On DBTT you can almost "feel" the will of Oasis to claim back the position they had in the glory days of Britpop.
Turn Up The Sun : Starts off with a psychodelic nostagic intro which reminds you of the bonus track "Let's All Make Believe" of the japanese release of SOTSOG, which is a very populair song by the most of the diehard Oasis fans. After it the song turns into a real Oasis rock stumper like Hindu Times. The song is very balanced and is a good "in your face" song. 8/10
Mucky Fingers : A good upbeat song with some good lyrics. Not sounding like something Oasis have ever done before. The problem is that the song sounds a bit underproduced in places. It might sounds a bit better when the song was sung by Liam. 6/10
Lyla : The first released single of the album. Could be a bit annoying after hearing the song more than 3 times in a row. For sure a good catchy popsong. 7/10
Love Like A Bomb : Could be a potential summerhit song, aldo it misses something ... It might be the voice of Liam on this one. The song is sung to annoyingly "sneary and raspy", and there the singing melody is not one of Oasis most brilliant ones. Comes a bit closer to single like "Go Let It Out". 7/10
The Importance Of Being Idle : One of the most swinging and catchy songs on this album. Brings you in the mood of bands The La's, The Kinks etc. A modern "House Of The Rising Sun". Might be the best "Noel song" since Don't Look Back In Anger". Very special and certainly a potential charttopper. 8.5/10
The Meaning Of Soul : This song is like an old rock n roll song they used to make around the time Elvis was young and thin. Not typical Oasis and far to short. It's a nice bridge between two songs, but nothing more than that. I'm sure Oasis could do better than this. 4/10
Guess God Thinks I'm Abel : A very beatiful song which reminds you of songs like "Songbird" and "She Is Love". Somehow the end of the song is to sudden, and the order between chorus and verse is a bit strange, but maybe that's what this song makes itself special. Got some potential for a summer hit. Beautifully sung by Liam. 9/10
Part Of The Queue : Another song sung by Noel. Conspicuously the song is in 3/4, which normally is un-usual for an Oasis song. Good banging acoustic song. Definitely belongs on the album. 7.5/10
Keep The Dream Alive : A song which definitely is a charttopper. Great vibe, it has that old Oasis thing songs like "Slide Away and Hey Now" had. One of the best songs on the album. 9.5/10
A Bell Will Ring : Reminds you of songs like Roll With It and Hello. Great guitar tune. 8/10
Let There Be Love : Definitely the best song on the album. A bombastic song like Oasis used to make them all the time. Got that Lennon-vibe in it. Let's say this is the "Imagine" by Oasis. Liam and Noel are singing great. The song got that mood and greatness to be a classic Oasis song. Definitely a No.1 charttopper. This song could have been on Morning Glory. Nowadays sometimes Oasis makes those glorious songs, let's pray next album will be full of this. 10/10
Let's say it clear : Don't Believe The Truth" is not another Definitely Maybe or another Morning Glory, but it comes close to the mood those albums had at the time. Together with Be Here Now it's the bands 3rd best record of their carriere. Recommended !

musically, i love it. the voices, the riffs, the "wall of sound" that oasis is known for. it delivers on all those fronts.
the thing that hurts the album and ultimately the band is the lack of depth. it's the same rehashed themes about love and dreams that every hackneyed musician brings -- britney spears, backstreet boys, et al. the substance isn't there. it's fluff. maybe some of you will know what i mean. sure oasis takes their cue from the beatles and stones, but what set them apart is that the beatles eventually grew out of their pop mold and did rock n' roll and lennon wasn't afraid to voice is political opinion. even the stones were above the fluff with songs like street fighting man and angie. they had some socially redeeming worth to their lyrics. oasis have yet to deliver a poignant umph from their music.
one of my favorite songs is their cover of street fighting man. there was energy and rancor to liam's voice. i want that in their other works.

I got it today due to no post yesterday and have just listened to it for the first time (I'm one of the only people who didn't cheat and I even avoided Oasis day on Radio One).
This record is, without doubt, superior to Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants and Heathen Chemistry and has an immediate effect that I didn't get with (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (at first Wonderwall, Cast No Shadow, Morning Glory and Champagne Supernova passed me by).
Turn Up The Sun is a really good opener that sets up the unpredictable nature of the whole album. I also think that Liam is trying to be at his most Rottenesque ever on this track.
Mucky Fingers was, in my opinion (and remeber I've only listened to Don't Believe The Truth once), the weakest thing on the record. I think with Liam's vocals in a Married With Children / Rockin' Chair style this could be a mega tune but with Noel singing it something seemed missing.
Saying that, Noel's vocals on The Importance Of Being Idle and Part Of The Queue are his best ever (alongside Half The World Away) and the songs suit his voice brilliantly. The opening of Part Of The Queue was instantly recongnisable but brilliant nonetheless.
I can't believe that I didn't feel the single Lyla the first few times I heard it. If it were left of the LP, like Noel wanted, it would definitley feel more hollow. It's a classic, nostaligic rock number that every Oasis album needs and reminds me of Roll With It, in that it will be sneered at by the music snobs but is a perfect feel good anthem that just makes you smile (and isn't that what music's about?)
A Bell Will Ring and Keep The Dream Alive are both good tunes and Liam sings them like he means buisiness. Is it just me or does the outro of Keep The Dream Alive remind anyone else of the jamming at the end of I Am The Resurrection? No. Okay.
Liam's songs are all strong but none of them match Born On A Different Cloud, then again that took me loads of listens to get and it's become my favourite thing on Heathen Chemistry. There's a quirkiness in Liams songs that seems to have rubbed off on his brother because you can just hear the off the wall madness in most of their writing.
Let There Be Love is classic Oasis which feels like the result of an affair between The Masterplan, Acquiesce, All Around The World and Stop Crying Your Heart Out. Liams vocals are absolutley brilliant but it's Noel's mid song entry that is the most exhilarating thing on the record. This song is so close to perfection but just misses out. I would have loved to have heard harmonies of "let there be love" between Noel and Liam at the end of the song (imagine Stand By Me without the harmonies!).
I'm dissapointed that my copy (the book style case with pockets for the CD and DVD) didn't come with the hidden track we were promised but how could you follow Let There Be Love?

Having now listened to this record many, many times (and I mean many) I've got to add a few things to my review.
1. Turn Up The Sun - Lovely intro and outro and it's amazing when the the guitars crash into life. I also like the way that the song ends when you think it's going to start up again. This happens a few times on this album which is short on repetition of choruses and is very endearing.
2. Mucky Fingers - I know this is very popular here and has grown on me but, sorry, I still reckon it's the weakest track on the album. The chorus is the only time when Noel sounds on it (and that is great) and the loose harmonica sounds fantastic. Nice drums as well.
3. Lyla - I challenge you not to be uplifted when you hear the intro to this. The chorus may go down as an all time classic in pop music.
4. Love Like A Bomb - Much better than Songbird (which I like). The high bits sound brilliant (why can't we hear more of this from Liam?) and the tinkly piano bits really are beautiful.
5. The Importance Of Being Idle - This makes you sit up and take notice. It sounds completely unoasisy and Noel's falsetto could fall flat on their arse but actually turns out to be magestic.
6. The Meaning Of Soul - For a minute and a half this is the be all and end all of music. It gets you going and has some of the most fantastic lyrics I've ever heard 'I'm different breed, I'm out of your league, I'm 10/10 all night'. Killer chorus. This song is Liam.
7. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - It's a very solid tune but becomes special with 'no one could break us...' and the big noise at the end.
8. Part Of The Queue - More brilliant vocals, fantastic chorus. I can't pick out any particular parts because it's just an all round classic tune.
9. Keep The Dream Alive - Possibly my favourite on the album. A future classic, shame is the chorus will not sound as good live as it does through the headphones.
10. A Bell Will Ring - A very good rock song but it doesn't bring anything special to me. Does anyone else think Liam is a little late to come in on the vocal? If this were on one of the last two records it would be a stand out but on this album it is just 'good'.
11. Let There Be Love - I've already said it all. Beautiful vocals from both of the brothers. Best bit - 'pass you byyyyyyyyyyyyy'.
At the moment I really do think it is up there with the first two albums and has more charm than (What's The Story) Morning Glory?

After two listens I want to put it on again which is a good sign.
TUTS-Love it, one of the best on the album MF-UMM, not so sure, not up to the stage of skipping it yet as it may grow on me Lyla-It's OK, a good battle cry and would be good live. But I can see why Noel didn't want it as a first single TIOBI- Good song but I prefer the rock stuff. Could do well generlly as a single TMOS-Ok , love the attitude though (give some to Noel!) GGTIA- Good song POTQ- OK but again not rock enough for me KTDA- Good tune-Andy Bells definetly an asset to oasis. Should have been first single I reckon. ABWR- Love It, sounds electric , Well done Gem LTBL- Good ending to the album, could be a huge single, don't know.
Overall excellent and I can see it doing really well in the US, it has that sort of feel. I like the contributions of Andy Bell and Gem and it should give oasis back credibility. Next album should be something special as I'm sure the REAL stuff has been kept back for the next album with the new label(why do you think there is a bidding war?)

Turn Up the Sun: It's a good rock n roll tune. It opens nicely. However, I've heard better rock songs from Oasis. 7/10 Mucky Fingers: Unique for Oasis, but still Oasis. Love this number. Love the lyrics, the feel, Noel's Voice. Awesome. Does get a tad repetetive, but it's the nature of the song I suppose. 9/10 Lyla: It's like roll with it. Catchy, but you don't love it. You like it a lot though. 7/10 Love Like a Bomb: This is a great tune, the lyrics are a bit weak. Songbird is better. 8/10 The Importance of Being Idle: I love this fucking song. The singing, the guitar, the sound, the lyrics. Perfect. 10/10 The Meaning of Soul: Perfect short track. It's not meant to be anything more than a short in your face rock and roll song. Aggressive, chorus explodes. Your head spins and then it's over. 10/10 Guess God thinks I'm Abel: I love this song. It's so brilliant. I don't mind the lyrics at all. I don't see why people get so icky about the Rainbow line. Who cares? The song is amazing. I love everything about it. 10/10 POTQ: It's a good song, but it can go on a bit too long, and the chorus isn't as good as it seems it's gonna be. I really enjoy it though. It's the 'hey now' of dbtt. 8/10 KTDA: It's a bit corny. But the chorus is fucking KILLER. It just hits you like hell. Still feels really corny though. 8/10 A bell will ring: Fantastic song. Love Gem's writing here. Great lyrics, great sound, great singing. 10/10 Let There Be Love: There's not much to complain about. Liam's voice and Noel's voice are both fantastic. The lyrics seemed kind of forced to sound profound. 9/10
Average Score: 8.7/10

having litened to the new album i must admit it is possibly one of the weakest oasis albums ever produced. Some positiives to come out of the album are lyla (a track which actually sounds like oasis), guess god thinks im able, keep the dream alive (should be the next single) and the meaning of soul. Dont like the fact that it was produced by an American. Of the weaker oasis albums I prefer Be Here Now to this album but it is still probably better in places than heathen chemistry.
