We all heard about it when Lyla came out, Noel said he didnt like it as their first single. He said that "the powers to be" forced him into it and it "wasn't even the 5th best track on the album." Ok, now their new single is Let there Be Love. I've noticed something, Sony has chosen the two songs on the album that Liam is most incapable of singing live. Lyla? Come on, he's done it at every gig and he hasnt been able to get even close on the first verse, sounds like garbage. Now Let there Be Love? You think with the way his voice has "changed" he'll be able to hit the high notes? You can even hear him straining for it on the CD, and now its their single? He's going to have to sing it at almost every gig, just like he does Lyla; not gonna be able to save his voice up and just do it once at MSG or something. I think sony did it on purpose. Thoughts?

No way... I see what you're saying but I don't think so
Lyla is definitely the most "radio friendly" song on the album and to get maximum exposure and publicity for the new album it had to be the first out. Can you imagine alt rock radio stations in the states playing TIOBI or LBL? I see LBL being like DLBIA in the states -- never nearly as popular as it was in the UK, partly because a lot of radio stations wouldn't touch it, especially when it seems like they got more longevity out of Wonderwall and CS. The stations here will still by playing Lyla for a little while but I wouldn't expect the reception for LBL to be as warm by the DJs.
As for Liam being unable to sing Lyla live I think some performances have been pretty good -- it doesn't suit his singing style, but its never going to sound as good live as the studio version. Sony knows they need to make money off this album because Oasis will be off their label for the next one, so the thought that they're screwing them over by picking singles doesn't fit with the more important fact that they still need to make money, and that's always their main motivation.

Liam's voice is fine, quit it now. If anything is wrong, Noel could always sing it live

You honestly think that the big-wigs at Sony give two shits what Liam can and can't sing live?? They're too busy stuffing their pockets...

Here's where I disagree. Sony knows theyre going to make enough money anyway, and their relationship with oasis has been less than pleasant. So why not make them look a little weaker? This is their last album with them, given the fact that it's OASIS theyre automatically going to sell big in the UK if not the US. To me this is Sony's final Fuck You to the Gallaghers, make it look like Liam's voice has gone to the dogs to discourage other labels from giving them huge deals. You think the next label they sign with will do another 6 album contract? As for radio friendly? KTDA is radio friendly, so is A Bell Will Ring. Both of them are more in Liam's range than Lyla. Don't get me wrong I dont think Liam's voice sucks now, it's just gotten deeper. You can tell in the songs he wrote, they're all in a lower register than the rest of the tracks on the album (cept maybe TUTS). There's nothing wrong with it, Booze, Drugs, and Age will do that to a person, but it looks to me like it's been exploited by Sony.
My point is this: It DOES make Liam look worse, to have two singles out that he cant sing properly, and a label that represents it's band well generally doesn't do that. So yes, I do believe Sony can give two shits because regardless of what song was released as a single they were going ot make a fuckton of cash. So with the money a non-issue, they had the chance to make Oasis look lousy and they took it.

all i can say if its revenge it backfired,it debuted at number 1 its getting good response in america from radio listener polls....and after hearin the whole lp its not one of my top 3 but it is as castlecraver said the most radio freindly song in terms of upbeat thumping guitars on the lp .personally i think its the perfect single to lead with much like hindu times was on hc and before you reply to my post by saying it was number 1 in the uk its only there 7th number 1 so its not like every song they release goes strait in..i think its a good debut single

Are you 100% LTBL is the next single though? Thought it was gonna be TIOBI?

The record companies don't hold grudges like that - and they're not loyal, on the flip side of the coin. If anything, sony has been promoting this album like they SHOULD have promoted Be Here Now and Heathen Chemistry. It's all about how the record companies sell albums to ClearChannel, which determines not only radio play, since ClearChannel controls that, but also ticket sales as ClearChannel controls the venues, how much is charged per ticket, etc. Why, suddenly, are oasis selling out 20,000 seat venues?? There's no sudden Oasis rennaissance; there was never any decline in how all of us Americans felt about the band in the first place! They could have been playing these venues all along, but Sony just didn't treat them right. Now Noel will pull out after 6 albums, and Oasis will go back to being fucking brilliant by releasing that double album with Stop The Clocks as the first single...hopefully by early 2007 haha...maybe that last bit is wishful thinking, but who woudln't love to see Noel stick it to Sony by having the band release a mega album in American again right after their deal is up?

Yeah, I agree with the above mentioned. Record companies are after $$$$$$ any way they can, so it doen't make sense that they would sabatage themselves . Although I would not be suprised that Noel (and the rest of the boys for that matter) are holding back their best stuff for the next and furture releases on the new record label. I wouldn't count against the next album being the BEST they have ever done, seriously!!!!!!
