Hasn't noel said in the news that Sony doesn't let them pick their own singles, which he was pretty irate about since he didn't want the first to be Lyla?
And hasn't he also slagged off Sony quite a bit, basically telling them they can fuck off, that he's saving his songs for the new record deal which is why he didn't make DBTT a double album?
And am I the only one who doesn't think Let there be love is going to make a good second single? It's sort of the album closer, so if anything it should be the last single to end the album?
Just seems that maybe Sony is trying to screw up things for them by releasing the wrong single at the wrong time in light of what Noel has said in the media about them. Just my opinion.

Lyla got them a number one. So that worked out just fine. About Let there be love, I think it's the best song on the whole album. Does it matter that it's the album closer, and they put it out as 2nd single. I don't give a shit about that. I hope It's up to Noel with the singles, that is none of Sony's business.

I agree, LTBL should be the las single.....or released around winter or something...not during summer...It doesn't have a summer vibe to me....

when an artist looks back at his works, his opinion of his favorites often differs from those of his peers and fans. when an album is released, the artist will inevitably have his favorites, but it doesn't means that his choices would be of those of his fans. it's completely the business of sony to pick which songs to release as singles. consider that noel probably doesn't play the song to a bunch of people and see what works and doesn't. sony probably does. after all, they're the ones releasing the albums (i.e., spending gobs of money; hence, a very vested interest in what works for the majority of the people and what doesn't)

Next single should be ABWR i would prefer Keep the Dream Alive but would not be adverse to that song, either.

noel was saying on jo whiley that it was a 'think tank' at big bro who wanted lyla as first single cuz he wanted MF. he went on to say MF will prob be last single (bad choice -LTBL should be last) which means 2nd and third will prob be TIOBI and LTBL. LTBL will prob get edited on radio (sadly) so perhaps theyl make it a double A with ABWR or MOS (just a thought). personally i think part of the queue would make a better single than LTBL but what do i know? i havent had any hit singles!

Sony chose Lyla as the first single. The Band chose Let There Be Love as the second single, thats what I presume.

Noel said on Australian TV last week that Lyla wasnt even going to be on the album. Apparently the boffins at Sony thought there was no "stand out" track suitable as a 1st single so they "advised" Oasis to find something else. So they went back and finished Lyla off for the record.
I've got the interview from Rove Live on VHS, but dont have a capture card to get it in digital form. I thought Noel was being very diplomatic about the whole deal with Sony when he was talking about it (plus I think he was getting frustrated at some of the stupid questions Rove was asking. Not one of his better interviews (Rove that is)).

I bet you this is what's going to happen . Ever since the first album the US market has got behind a different song than UK and the rest of the World . So I believe Let There Will Be Love will be the track that breaks over here . Just like these previous tracks (Rock n' Roll Star , Champagne Supernova , Don't Go Away & Where Did It All Go Wrong?). In all likelihood The Importance of Being Idle will probably be the next UK single with ABWR and LTBL to follow.

I think IOBI will be able to generate some interest in the States...it's catchy and different, might make people think Oasis is a new band or something...
