Mr Noel Gallagher has revealed the inspiration behind the cryptic title of Oasis's new release 'Don't Believe The Truth', and it's all about politics. The Lyla rocker came up with the contradictory monicker after having a ponder on how those dastardly politicians lie through their teeth to the unsuspecting public. He explains to Uncut, "It just struck me that politicians lie so blatantly these days, the man in the street has got no hope of finding out the real story...the whole weapons of mass destruction thing." But talking of politics, after such a phenomenal let down all round, will Mr G be putting his X next to Labour in the future? He says, "Of course I will. It's the one chance you get to be political. "People go on about Tony Blair but he'll be gone in a few years and the Labour Party will still be there." www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=6087

this confirms my thoughts exactly when I heard the album title ! I was wondering ? In the past Noel and Liam have said about songs "they are just words, they rhyme.." "I don't know what it means to me etc. etc. But that may be changing... (Noel even briefly commenting about politics now... Liam's confession that GGTIA is really about him and Noel.) Thanks for the thread. I exalt thee. be well

If he's really being influenced a lot by Bob Dylan like he said he was, I suspect that his songs would then have to have some sort of meaning to them.

Ive written the words "dont believe the truth" at the bottom of my acknowledgements section for my dissertation for university. My dissertation is a study of the effect of anti-drug campaigns, posters and adverts. For example "Drugs are bad, they will kill you" This is the message that they frequently put out. They use shock tactics istead of impartial facts where people can make there own minds up. I thought "Dont beleive the truth" was appropriate.
