I know everyone's been raving about The Importance Of Being Idle so I'm quite prepared to get shot down for this but...
I just can't get into it. It seems to plod along with no real hook to keep me going back for more.
I was expecting something fantastic from what everyone was saying but I'd put this tune in the bracket of Force Of Nature. I find it dull and I think it would be a big mistake to release it as a single.
Just my opinion.

c'mon. the song is fuckin addicting from the drums in the begginning to the anticipation of the line about the faith in the summertime to the last note. it's a great song. it's no wonderwall, singalong powerpop song, but it's just as good in a different way. give it a few more listens and you'll love it

Well, while I agree that TIOBI is a great song, I'm not so sure that it is single material. There are a few other songs on the album that I think would be better: MF, KTDA, ABWR... just my 2 cents

It's a fuckin' MEGA tune. Noel trying something different again (as he did with MF) and coming up trumps. Brilliant song, they're mugs if they DON'T release it as a single!

It's starting to grow on me after a few more listens I must admit.
Lots of strong songs on this album though I reckon. Which is nice.
There's nothing that stands out as particularly "skippable", unlike the last couple of albums.

Okay, people, I haven't heard "Idle," and I haven't heard the album. I just have a quick question…
Why does everybody dis' "Force of Nature"? I love "Force of Nature." Now, I'll admit it doesn't do much, and maybe it could be trimmed by about half-a-minute, but when I heard that song, I thought, "well, now Noel will always have an album track rocker to sing in concert." I mean, it's not brilliant, but am I the only one who thinks it's good? The only real complaint I had about it is that Liam doesn't sing it.

Funnily enough I was listening to Force of Nature in the car this afternoon and quite enjoyed it.
It's one of those songs that can grow a bit tired after a while, that's all.
Not the most exciting Oasis song ever, maybe you have to be in the mood for it.
Having said that one of the reviews of Heathen Chemistry when it first came out (Mojo I think) slagged off pretty much the whole album except FON which it said was mega.
So there you go.

It's the one song that is 'ok' it's still a good song, I guess I just don't like it when Noel is trying to hit the 'higher notes'.
It's my 10th or 11th song.

Hey NoelandmeMay29…
Is that a picture of the mighty Cheap Trick you have next to your post? Did you pick that?
And to all who responded about FoN… Thanks. I have found the best place to listen to that song is in your car, REALLY loud.

LuckyJim You are Correct Sir!! The Mighty Cheap Trick!!!
I put it there!
Obviously huge Oasis fan but I love Cheap Trick! 'Surrender' is my Karoake staple! Of course I murder it but the crowd loves it!!
I have the Silver Anniversary DVD. You should check it out. It has Slash, Billy Corgan, Alex fro Everclear it's great.
Yeah I am sure 'Idle' sounds better loud. I like it but it's like 10 or 11 for me.

whoops you were talkin about FON loud.
Yeah that is one of my least fave Oasis songs. Amazing that Shout It Out Loud or Thank You for The Good Times was a B-Side & FON was A.

From NoelandMeMay29: "Obviously huge Oasis fan but I love Cheap Trick! 'Surrender' is my Karoake staple! Of course I murder it but the crowd loves it!!"
I also am a huge fan of Oasis and Cheap Trick. Noel should start ripping THEM off — not that Noel needs any advice on writing great tunes, but even he could probably learn something about songwriting economy from the majestic Rick Nielsen, who was nothing short of genius in his early days. Take "Surrender" for example. It's one of the greatest rock n' roll anthems of all time, and it doesn't even have a guitar solo. With that big key change in the third verse, you don't need one!
But enough of the mighty Cheap Trick. This thread was about "Idle," which I haven't heard yet. And then I voiced my opinion that I actually liked "Force of Nature" a whole bunch. And some people said it was alright. And others said they didn't care what I said, they didn't like it. And that is that. I'm done now.
How do you do those little boxes to put quotes in? And italics? Oh, never mind…

But can't stand the guitar solo. It's annoying. It could be much greater without it.
