Oasis kicked off their mini tour of intimate London (and one Scottish) venues with an incendiary performance at the Astoria last night (May 10), playing through a mix of new tracks an old classics.
The gig (along with dates at the Clapham Grand, Coronet and Hammersmith Apollo) had sold out within minutes of going on sale, and was the first time that UK fans were able to see the band play tracks from the upcoming album ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’.
Kicking off with the new record’s opener the Andy Bell-penned ‘Turn Up The Sun’ that band roared through an eighteen track set that included current single ‘Lyla’ (deemed by one fan as “So much better live than on record, really amazing”) new tracks ‘The Importance of Being Idle’ and Liam Gallagher’s ‘The Meaning Of Soul' as well as B-side ‘Headshrinker’ and classics ‘Morning Glory’, ‘Live Forever’ and set highlight ‘Rock'n'Roll Star’.
The simple stage set itself reflected the new no-frills straight down to business attitude of the band, with just rows of fairy lights draped round the backdrop leaving the focus on the group, especially drummer Zak Starkey’s mod-styled red, white and blue ‘Ready Steady Go!’ T-shirt, and Liam’s outfit combo of white cagoule (zipped up to the top, natch) bright red shorts and white trainers, which, according to another member of the audience “Makes him look like f**king Santa Claus, dunnit?”
As for Oasis drama, there was very little onstage banter with the band concentrating on their performance, save Liam dedicating ‘Rock'n'Roll Star’ by saying “This one’s for that bloke from Bloc Party… Bloody students.”
The full set was.
‘Turn Up The Sun’ ‘Lyla’ ‘Bring It On Down’ ‘Morning Glory’ ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ ‘The Importance of Being Idle’ ‘A Bell Will Ring’ ‘Live Forever’ 'Headshrinker’ ‘The Meaning Of Soul’ ‘Mucky Fingers’ ‘Champagne Supernova’ ‘Rock'n'Roll Star’
‘Songbird’ ‘Wonderwall’ ‘Don't Look Back In Anger’ 'My Generation' Oasis remaining intimate gigs are:
Edinburgh Usher Hall (May 15) London Clapham Grand (22) London Coronet (25) London Carling Apollo Hammersmith (26)

Some interesting setlist choices, they say they're playing 8 from the new album in the big gigs, I'd guess that means goodbye to a few songs, maybe Songbird and Bring it On Down, but its anyones guess.

I´m disappointed if there is only 6 new songs on whole tour..Noel promised 8. But maybe they change the set a little bit for arena-tour..who knows. Yeah there also should be some tunes from BHN and SOTSOG, for example like Gas panic and Fade in-out.

I think they should retire Morning Glory. I was hoping they would have played a few other b-sides. I think the setlist for the other club gigs will be different.
