this album, while i love it, can no longer can be considered mainstream. radio has changed drastically. there are more top 40 stations than there were in the mid-90's during oasis' hay day.
the dreck that's being played on radio now is the crappy metalrock, alt-rock that's sugar coated or whiney, and then on the other specturm is the likes of britney spears and hip hop.
oasis doesn't fall into those categories. rock stations have been dying for the past ten years slowly. at first it was a slow bleed, but has since become gushing wounds.
we can't rely on radio for the exposure. there's still college stations and internet chats. but those are limited fields. the greatest market for rock music will always be the younger generations. but unfortunately those kids have their love for spears.
oasis and bands that we grew up with are a dying breed.
sorry to be a downer.

That's certainly the picture in a few parts of the world, not every single one.
"oasis and bands that we grew up with are a dying breed." could be replaced with "great bands are a dying breed."

Oasis haven't been "mainstream" for quite sometime. But what exactly is mainstream? Does your music video have to be played on MTV to be considered mainstream? Does your band have to be on the cover of the Rolling Stone to be mainstream?...Noel has stated that Oasis aren't fashionable anymore. They just record great albums and tour.

Oasis haven't been mainstream for a while? ? Now that is fucking bullshit! Go and tell any struggling bands or artist out there that selling 3.5 million copies of an album (HC) isn't mainstream, its huge! It was one of the 10 best selling albums by a UK artist in 2002. If that isn't mainstream then I don't know what the fuck is!! A fair statement is that Oasis haven't been the biggest band in the world since 1997. But to say they "are not mainstream" is complete bullshit. They are one of the biggest bands in Britain, and I've seen Lyla on the Sky & Cable music channels at least once a day for the last month! That is about as mainstream as you can get without being someone like Britney or Robbie Williams!

And by the way, does a band that "isn't mainstream" sell out Madison Square Garden about 10 years after their sales peak??? I don't think so my friends!!

I dunno. I mean I hear Lyla on the radio here in Los Angeles every day and their video plays on VH1 Mega Hits about 12x a day. Sure the music scene is piss-poor compared to the mid-90's, but to quote Huey Lewis (which I shall never do again), "the heart of rock'n'roll is still beating."

I dunno, it all depends. Like U2 went thru a number of low points, not necessarily musically-- but in terms of radio airplay.
But they came back. Course, it didn't hurt that Bono is constantly on a camera trying to cure AIDS or whatever.
