Jesus..... Liam sounded f****g aweful. Oh my god. He sounds great on the album (DBTT) but on the J.R show he sounded aweful. Just listen to the beginning of Lyla... Holy S**t... I really hope that his voice improves for the tour, or else!!! But I still love Oasis the best band in the world, and Liam is still one of the best rock n roll singers of all time.. But still Liam you can do way better than what you did tonight (hopefully?) MADFERIT

Relax-
He was just out of key in the beginning, shit happens, he got back in key and sounded great after the first two verses.
Better now than on tour.

Now now, no need to wind everyone up. Give our kid a break. And for that matter, while Lyla got off to a bit of a rocky start, I'd say My Gen ws crack on. JMO.

Before we start believing his voice is gone lets wait and see how it goes after a few more live shows. Lyla's piss poorness could be attributed to a lot of things.

I honestly haven't heard the clip of tonight's performance, but coming from someone who studied voice as a student, I'd say there are a number of factors that could have made him sound bad.
First off, keep in mind that Lyla is the highest Liam vocal since Definitely Maybe. I mean the Kid hits a high G. That's a real tenor note at that point. In good vocal health, a tenor can easily hit that. But the fact that he somes and drinks more than the rest of the band combined makes that high G more impressive. I've listened very closely to the recording, as well, and from what I can hear, they didn't even touch up the notes with pitch correction software, so we know he's still got it in him to hit those notes pure.
Another thing that can complicate things is the monitor level. If he sounded crap at the beginning of a song, but then got better towards the end, that leads me to believe that his monitor levels were too low. If you can't hear yourself, it's hard to tell if you're in tune or not (barring that you have perfect pitch.)
A final consideration might be that Liam had a cold or something. I did a show tonight with a cold, and I struggled with the notes I could easily hit. If Liam as had something that would affect his respiratory tract, of course he'd sound like shit.
This is all speculation, but they are all things one might want to take into consideration before judging a performance. A lot more goes into singing than most people know. And the fact that Liam hits one bum note here or there is really negligable. If he hit them in the studio, then be satisfied. The Kid hasn't lost his voice yet. And that is reason enough for celebration.

It wasn't that bad. It was TV and their first performane of a new song in a while. Maybe the first LIVE performance of Lyla ever? Relax. It got better as it went on and My Generation was great (although I wish they would stop covering that).

from hearing lyla off the album/radio i'd have to say his voice is nowhere near as good as before. it's so nasal and forced now.

Other than the part where his voice cracks? Yes. I agree... But his voice cracked... That's not good... Hopefully this can be attributed to lack of practice...

Yeah I hate to acknowledge it, but he did start out singing bad. That distracted me from the song, but about a minute into it I forgot about it and just enjoyed the rest of it. He'll get it next time.

he sounded a hell of a lot better than he did at Glastonbury 04. I thought My Generation sounded amazing, Lyla not as much.

Besides the beginning of Lyla, I thought it was pretty good overall. My Generation was very good. I'll take that performance any day over the one he gave at Glastonbury.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was about his white trousers But after the first minute or so I thought Liam sung well. Liked Lyla speeded up a bit too

he sounded a hell of a lot better than he did at Glastonbury 04. I thought My Generation sounded amazing, Lyla not as much. Exactly - he was fucking beyond awful at Glastonbury. On some songs it was just embarassing how bad he was. I was watching it with some mates who aren't really Oasis fans and they were amazed at how bad he sounded. Personally, I didn't think Lyla was too bad last night. After Glastonbury I was bracing myself for the worst but I thought it sounded pretty good considering. My Generation just fucking rocked and they all looked really fucking cool. Couldn't ask for more really. Except a new song of course...

Live is another story; however, there could be a number a reasons for this poor performance, as one poster already did a nice job articulating.

The album version of Lyla is probably a few hundred takes, which have all been cut and pasted so that Liam sounds really good. He didn't seem to have enough breath last night. Too many fags.
Also, to sing off key on a song that has been about 4 fucking years in the making is criminal. Hope he sorts his shit out for the tour.
