It's natural. They aren't trying to be anything else.
Definitely Maybe was them as lads trying to get huge with dreams.
WTSMG was them there.
Be Here Now was made in a time of stress, and while it came out great, there wasn't anything truly creative-- it was more same old. Still a top album.
Oasis realized that they had to go somewhere different. However, due to various reasons SOSOG didn't come out like it should have (It had 2 or 3 shit tracks that could have been replaced by b-sides. It would have been critically hailed if that was the case) for various reasons. Bonehead and gugisy leaving--all that. Hard time for them.
Then Heathen Chemistry came along. It seemed like they just got two new dudes in the band, and they figured Well we need to still function like Oasis. And instead of realizing that things have changed, they tried too hard to be Oasis.
But now we have Don't Believe the Truth. It's natural. It sounds unique. They aren't trying to be anything besides what they are, and it shows. The album all FLOWS nicely. Heathen Chemistry did not because they were trying to hard. The album has a certain feeling to it.
Anybody disappointed is simply disappointed because they were expecting something else, not something better I mean, Turn up the Sun is a brilliant opener, Mucky Fingers is such a new turn for Oasis. Brilliant track, don't see why people don't like it. Lyla is a great Roll With it style tune. Love like a Bomb is a brilliant, unique sounding summer tune. Importance of being Idle is among their best, Meaning of Soul is an amazing stomper that isn't meant to be anything more than a 1:30 minute song. It's great! It's not intended to blow you away, just to pump you up a bit. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel is amazing, and if you think otherwise--you suck, heh. Part of the Queue is such a fun song. It's so addictive. Keep the Dream Alive is a great tune, but not amazing. Great chorus though. I love A bell will ring. Sounds like the fucking Beatles. Don't know how one doesn't like this tune. And then Let There Be love. Brilliant closer that whispers to you rather than screams.
Thanks Noel, Liam, Andy, Gem, and Dave Sardy. Great album.
It isn't more of the same-- it's creative
They weren't trying too hard to be different, they weren't trying to hard to be Oasis, they were just being Oasis. And it worked wonderfully.
