Kalas I see your point. I know you're not knocking the Chief but you're getting a bit concerned that there's less activity from Noel. I agree with one of the other posters, I think he's getting alot more onto paper than through your speakers. That could be for a number of reasons. I happen to trhink of the following possibilities........ Noel is actually happier with the band these days than in the mid-nineties IMO. It was after SOTSOG that the songwriting started getting shared around. It's no co-incidence that around the same time Gem & Andy joined while Liam developed his talent for songwriting also. By '02, the first album that the 'new' band collectively worked on hit the scene with Liam having had 2/3 more years since Little James and Gem & Andy establishing themselves in the band. That album was of course HC which seen alot more sharing of the songwriting. As Noel is on record as saying, in the 90's the band was more of a lad culture, us & them type thing. Whereas these days it's more of a musical band. There's brainstorming, open forum and contributions from all angles which has eased the load on Noel. Gem has came in and put his piece in whilst helping to put Liam's ideas down into something tangible, Andy has come in and of course the Chief is still doing his thing. There's also the issue of signing a new record deal. There's a bit of tension between he & Sony, which he makes no secret of, for example his comments (made publicly) regarding the choice of Lyla as the first single and how he wants to address that type of thing on the next deal. To me, the DM and WTSMG songs are everything he was waiting to say all his life. He was born to make those records. Whereas now you can see he has matured and his more recent songs reflect his growth as a person and his experiences over the last number of years. Songs like Gas Panic talk of him coming off drugs, Part of The Queue is about how London's become overpopulated, soul-less and less like home. To me, in summary, the songs of the mid 90's depict everything the man is about, and the more recent songs are memoirs of his life stage at the said point (ie 2001/2 for HC, 04/05 for DBTT etc That is the best think I have ever read on this board...I will copy it on my comp, print it and put it on the wall in my room...really beatiful!

what if they really have all these class tunes written and they're just waiting for a new, more profitable record deal to release the songs and they're releasing second choice stuff on this album. there's also a posibility that they're doing that... hahaa

i bet also a lot of the tunes he writes now aren't as "oasisy" and dont get put on the albums. I remember him saying once he has tapes and tapes worth of stuff that doesnt sound like oasis....
once he goes solo, which he may do soon, i bet we'll get a taste of a lot of the stuff which hasnt made the albums...which could be just as good. I mean one way road is just as good as anything on SOTSOG...

Noel is releasing 5-6 songs per album (2-3 years) which is a logical thing as the other members contribute more with their songwriting. I don't find it depressing at all.

Although DBTT is gonna be MEGA, right up there with WTSMG, you wait and see!!!
I just wanna tell you one thing...
The next album's gonna be even better!!!
With a new record label, a fresh start, STOP THE FUKKING CLOCKS AS THE FIRST SINGLE, I'm tellin' you, THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING, as an Oasis fan, I haven't been this excited for a long, long time!
And remeber this also: The Chief hasn't played all his cards yet! He's saving them for the new label. He has MANY TRICKS uop his sleeve that NOBODY (not even Liam!!!) knows about! In The Chief I trust. I have always trusted him, and what he says GOES. CUT AND DRY.
Like others in this post, I too, would rather have quality over quantity. If it takes another 2-3 years to get Stop The Clocks right, and to make The Ear Has No Memory sounding that much better, than so be it. DBTT is just the set-up. I'm telling you right now, when they sign with the new label, and when TEHNM DROPS, the WHOLE FUKKING WORLD WILL BE BLOWN AWAY, and I will still be fukking MADFERRIT!

To me that is a crying shame. IT's doing stuff that ISN'T as "Oasisy" that makes this new album so exciting. As long as you've got Liam singing it's going to sound uniquely like them - so experimenting with the music side of the band can only be a good thing.

and nobody really knows when he actually wrote those songs either. we know he wrote it's a crime prior to giants, put it on the demo's and then dumped it for 5 years. the vein of the other tunes is gona be different than this one but i still wouldnt be suprised if their resurections of prior sessions. richard ashcroft did the same with most stuff he released by himself. dunno..they had all the crap they get from the papers yeah most of richard ashcrofts stuff on "alone with everybody" was stuff he wrote for Urban Hymns
