Why would ANY promos be given out anymore in this internet download age??? Lyla isn't even 'officially' out yet, but b/c of radio play and internet technology it already feels like an OLD song in comparison to what happened yesterday. If the current single for radio to play is 'Lyla' (which still doesn't come out til May 16th) why in the hell do promotional cd's get sent to radio stations and magazines. Let the CD come out and then people that are going to buy anyway will do that and the casual Oasis fan can wait to hear what his Oasis fan friend thinks OR start reading reviews. Are we shocked that a band like Oasis (especially in the UK) has an album almost 3 years in waiting get 'accidentally' leaked? Wondering if that 'really' was reason Alan White was kicked out. I seriously doubt that now. The good thing is, the songs do sound watermarked, so hopefully people won't think that they have good quality. Why not give out Vinyl promos, so there is less a chance for the songs to be digital anywhere until release. I blame Sony and band management.

I agree - a band the size of Oasis should keep everything they do FIRMLY under wraps until the release date and then mags and papers can review it.
It'll still go to no.1 cos they are enough Oasis fans who'll buy any new Oasis LP and those fairweather fans will have a chance to jump on the bandwagon if they want afterwards
Now, anybody who wants 5 out of 11 tracks from an album 6 weeks away from general release can easily do so.
Of course downloading will occur after the album is released but it does somewhat ruin the experience of buying a new album when you've played half the songs on it to death before you've even bought it
You would really think Sony and Oasis would have learnt from the experiences of SOTSG and HC.
I sincerely hope they learn from this for the future and in the mean time bring forward the release date so DBTT hits the shelves asap.

didn't the white stripes release their 'elephant' promos to djs etc on vinyl only to find that it was ripped from the records and on the internet long before it's release still?

IMO this whole watermark and vinyl promos idea is crap.
When you can play the thing you can record it on your computer. Just connect the line out of the player to the line in of your computer. Press rec and there you go.
Who is gonna trace what then?
They should send out some promos and have them leaked etc etc... And then release a complete different album! Shock? Yeah! Great publicity? Yeah!
Just a thought.

i think they should just ditch the promo idea. just let the single out 2 weeks before the album and be done with it. some people probably heard lyla, liked it and probably would have bought the record on the spot. waiting 2 months just lets them forget about it.

They should release the single and just invite all of the important reviewers of the record to one listening party a few weeks before the release. That way the reviewers can hear it, and they don't have to hand out any copies of the album to anybody.
