Outspoken Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher is furious with music giants Sony for releasing Lyla as a single against the band's wishes.
The rockers intended to release a different track from their forthcoming album Don't Believe The Truth, but label bosses had other ideas.
The fuming frontman says: "If it was up to the band, that wouldn't be the single. It was the powers that be, whoever they f**king are, that decided the first single.
"It's a f**king scandal that as the leader of this group I don't get to pick what our fans hear first."

Fuck. Now that is news! He said before that it was one of the weaker tracks but he never put it like this. I'm glad that they are finally out of sony's grip after this one.

It is strange how Noel has backtracked so much on this. It always seemed strange to me that Noel was so enthusiastic about the new, different sounding album, yet was saying they wanted an obvious single to promote it. Why not put out one of the fresher souding tracks as a lead, especially if, as Noel has said from day one, they are much stronger than Lyla. Either he was saying they went back to Lyla so he got all the praise if it was universally praised, even though the truth was they didn't want it released, or he's covering his back now by blaming someone else for what a lot of people think is an almost lazy choice of single. Hmm, Don't Believe The Truth

Hmm, Don't Believe The Truth exaactly..i mean he gives this whole story about how liam did the vocals over the demo that it was a pogoing tune and his idea..then this ..i hope its a bullshit story cause that would be strange indeed

Yeah, but the song hasn't even hit the shops yet. It's unusual for anyone to make excuses for a song not 2 weeks after it started getting airplay, even Noel.

I just don't see it as good business to kill your own single even before it's released! He must be trying to cover his own ass! (in case it won't make it on the charts)

So if it´s true, then they have a point on their contract that Sony can decide the singles sounds very weird, that they would have signed that kind of deal....?

I just don't get! Have any of you lads seen a bad single review for Lyla yet?? # I think the problem is the that single doesn't have much middle ground with anyone. Most people seem to absolutly love it, or really hate it, and it's probably those vibes that have sparked this. I seem to be one of the few who likes it, but nothing more. One thing's for sure it'll be MEGA live.

I think we should wait until this pops up in an actual interview or solid source before we get wound up about it. It is quite a lazy single choice, but I don't think Noel would be so silly as to talk it down before it's even out.
And I seem to recall, at least back in the Creation days, that it was written into the contract that Oasis had complete creative control, and no one could dictate to them what they could and couldn't release (Alan McGee tried, he wanted to put Acquiesce out as the A-side instead of Some Might Say, and Noel ignored him).
I would be surprised if that has changed, as Sony has effectively caved to every demand Noel has ever made (on publishing deals, setting up Big Brother Recordings rather than leaving the label, etc). I don't quite believe this one yet. Which is not to say that Noel won't actually do it in a few months!

webby ,do u think its true? cause if it is its just strange i mean 2 weeks ago he was sayin it was the logical single? I heard these rumblings several weeks ago from a different press source so unless he is being misquoted all over the place I guess it carries some weight...on the other hand it comes from the chief who told us the singles name would be The Ear has no Memory....

Webby do you think this would be posted on oasisinet anytime soon? The thing is I don't know if the official homepage is somehow under the control of Sony. Am I being paranoid? Dr. Phil I'm ill

In truth Lyla is among the wekest tracks on the album. 1st single, NO. B-side YES.
