I think that the satriani's and vai's of the world are good technically, but that's all. Their songs are boring imo. Finger tapping should be have been left in the 80's. They always go over the top, whereas noel, ok he's not technically as good, but his style is simple and effective. Give me the live forever solo anyday over any of their spandex clad finger tapping.

Spot on.
Leave the finger jousting - cock fighting guitar solo's back in the 80's where they belong.

Hendrix - great skills without being to overbearing Slash - same as Hendrix and Slash also has awesome solos ie Sweet Child of Mine and Patience Steve Howe - i dont care what you fuckers say Yes rocks. Mood For a Day is the coolest acoustic song ever. Rhandy Rhoads Kirt Hammet
Noel is a good guitarist. After listening to all of the catchy shit Oasis has come out with (b-Sides and all) you can't dney he's got some skill. Still, those other 5 guitarists made me want to be a guitarist. Noel makes me want to be a songwriter.

i think most of my favourites have been mentioned...
john squire, jimmy page, brian may, george harrison, noel, hendrix...
the usual suspects really....
although, while i'm not a massive muse fan...matt bellamy(?) is a very very good guitarist coming out with some really original stuff lately.

still? why does no one love the edge? I've always thought that he's one of the most over-rated guitarists around.

although, while i'm not a massive muse fan...matt bellamy(?) is a very very good guitarist coming out with some really original stuff lately. while he's a good guitarist, like i just said, this is about the GREATEST guitarists. EVER. so obviously, you're going to hear hendrix, clapton, harrison, and those guys, of course, but these guys left a mark on the instrument and its style that can't be touched. yet. we'll see what happens to bellamy in 10 years. then we'll see if he's up there

i personally don't think that the edge is overrated. He's come up with a lot of classic guitar parts. Even though he may not be the best guitarist, U2 would not be as good as they are if he weren't there.

david howell evans (aka the edge ;D found out his real name) just plays a very "edget style of guitar" some people beleive thats were he got his name ( or that he was always on the edge of things) , he does the work of 2 guitarists, i think he is klass

He has his own unique sound, i'll give him that . I saw a programme a while ago and it said he was called 'the edge' because of his chin, dunno if it's true though.
