.......or so Liam reports LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oasis are making quick, early progress on recording their first studio release in three years, singer Liam Gallagher said on Tuesday. He said studio work began last week on the band's seventh album since forming in 1991and everything should be done by mid-December. After Christmas, the band will come to Los Angeles to mix the album aiming for a release around August. As with Radiohead, Oasis are free of major-label shackles --but don't expect them to follow Radiohead's example, and allow fans to download the album from the Web for whatever price they feel like paying. Gallagher, peppering his speech with expletives, told Reuters it would be over his "dead body" before he went into a studio and worked hard to release his work for nothing. As was the case with 2005's "Don't Believe the Truth," the band is collaborating with producer Dave Sardy, and all the members have contributed compositions, not just primary songwriter and guitarist Noel, Liam's older brother. Liam declined to reveal the titles of his songs, but said they are pugnacious in spirit. Gallagher said "without a doubt" the untitled released would compare to the seventh U.K. albums of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, "Revolver" and "Beggars Banquet" respectively. "There's lots of cool parts, man. Really, we're throwing everything at it. It's gonna be cool, man," he said. The last album, he said, suffered from Noel's incessant tinkering in the studio. "Hopefully our kid's learned his lesson," he said. " It shouldn't be hard making music. We've been doing it long enough." "Don't Believe the Truth" reportedly sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. But the U.S. contribution was just 199,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Their biggest U.S. seller remains their second release, 1995's (What's the Story) Morning Glory?" with 3.9 million copies. The album's worldwide sales were reportedly about 19 million. Gallagher said the band tried its best with its subsequent albums, but the results were not always favourable as they spend so much time away from the studio and on the road. The 18-month world tour to promote "Don't Believe the Truth" has been recorded for posterity on the documentary "Lord Don't Slow Me Down," which just came out on DVD. Director Baillie Walsh's black-and-white film depicts a band that has sharply cut back on its youthful hijinks. Board games, shopping sprees and football talk alternate with catty locker-room comments about Tom Cruise, Charlotte Church and Duran Duran. Noel, 40, and Liam, 35, infamous for their homicidal attitudes to each other, display mutual affection -- for the most part. Liam said they are getting along fine in the studio, though "We don't really speak that much. We just do what we do."

Album mix down in Los Angeles after Christmas with Summer release planned.... seems pretty consistant with what we've been hearing for the past few months.

Album finished in January, released 7 months later. Why does it take so fucking long to release a record?! that's ridiculuos. It usually takes about 4-5 months, not 7... I really hope the new album is good, or at least that it's a bit of an evolution

I've got a hunch that it's gonna sound different... Whether that's a good thing time will tell.

Didn't they say that DBTT was the closest to Revolver that anyone had ever accomplished?

Didn't they say that DBTT was the closest to Revolver that anyone had ever accomplished? I think Noel said that of "A Bell Will Ring" specifically. And I think he's right on that one.

I think it will sound different, but I don't think it will be great. However, most people in here will argue it is groundbreaking for about 2 years and then it will slowly fade into semi-obscurity (from a non Oasis fanatic standpoint). Not to be too pessimistic, but it just feels like this is being set-up to happen like this.
Can't wait though, definitely hoping for something to top 2005.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again: Oasis are back on form.
ok, DBTT was good. prob was hyped a bit. but def still a good album
For me, im looking at the personalities. Noel and Liam have now matured. Just go back and look at the interviews even. Both have matured. And for that the music is more focused. That's why i think this coming album will live up to the hype.
It will be as good as, if not better than, DBTT. And thats fine with me. Cos i still enjoy that album.

I'm really interested in how the album will turn out, musically at least. Better than Sympathy for the Devil? Noone has ever accomplished that, pretty sure Liam wont. The Stone already did man, it's called Gimmie Shelter.

DBTT marked a turning point for Oasis, i reckon. Of course we have to wait to see how the new album is before this previous statement is validated.
They lost their way with BHN. SOTSOG and HC showed that. (Yeah, decent albums, some fantastic songs on all 3 but we know full well that none of those 3 albums came close to the greatness of DM and WTS)
As i said above, DBTT is a much more mature album. Oasis are more focused than ever.
This will be evident in their 2008 album, i reckon.

can you spare us with your theories please? DBTT=booooooooooooooooooooooring BHN=exciting SOTSOG=awesome we've been though the BHN debate, mate although i do agree with you - BHN is exciting. (Giants is good too - but it has their worst songs on it, hence the lower rating for me) And once again, i said this before, if im driving and i have DBTT in, i'll switch over to BHN within 20mins or so. BHN is a much more fun album. But DBTT is still the most mature Oasis have sounded since WTS. I wouldnt say its boring! It's different. I would consider HC the most boring Oasis album (but still a decent album) The problem with rating these albums is that even the worst Oasis album has its shinning moments. Whether thats due to us being biased or if Oasis simply havnt created an utterly shit album - i dont know (^and this theory is shown through STC Album - so many great tunes left out!)

i think there's no shit album but DBTT sounds like they've tried hard but failed some songs sound like grand dad rock (mucky fingers someone?)
at least the other albums flow
i just hope that the new album is going in a totally different direction from DBTT

Why dont you like DBTT?
TUTS is a strong opener Lyla is catchy as fuck. Similar to Roll With It, imo LLAB is up there with Songbird for Liam written songs. its mega POTQ is genius
I do find GGTIA and LTBL boring
Not a fan of Mucky Fingers or A Bell Will Ring (preachy - i cringe every time i hear "entertain your goals")
Keep The Dream Alive - Sounds good, and decent lyrics. But its generic Oasis (Stand By Me mould)
But i can tolerate those weaker tracks. I cant say the same for HC (Force of Nature) or Giants (Little James, Money/Mouth).
Heh, to each his own.
