Oasis will enter London's Abbey Road studios on November 5 to record their seventh album. They have already completed work on two songs set for the album, and have demoed the rest.
Speaking to BBC 6Music, Noel Gallagher revealed that the band already began initial recording at the studio six weeks ago, and plan to mix the album after a Christmas break.
"We start in Abbey Road a week on Monday [November 5]," he said. "Then we'll probably work through a couple of months there, have Christmas off, then go and mix it and see where we're at.
"We all write separately, but for some reason all the songs sound like they've got a common thread. We've been focusing round the grooves more this time."
He added: "The last album ['Don't Believe The Truth'] was quite 'songy', if that makes any sense - it was quite a British, retro, '60s sounding album. This [new album] is focusing round the grooves more."
Gallagher went on to explain that he'd been having difficulty coming up with lyrical inspiration.
"I've literally got nothing left to write about," he said. "I've written about being a youth, and I've written about being a rock star, and I've written about living life in the big city."

Well, if they mix it in January then maybe it'll be out by... uhh... March?

That Christmas break could extend well into January. Don't forget that they need to figure out who will release the album and in what format, too.

Can anyone give me an example of an Oasis song that has a good groove? I don't like the sound of that.

Wow, Kings of Leon could you have answered that question more annoyingly? Cool name too. Are you in the band? What are the chances you don't have long hair.

Well, LDSMD (the song) sent my expectations for the new album plummeting and those quotes have just left them hovering around the rock bottom mark. So basically, they haven't got any 'songs' and Noel doesn't know what the hell to write about anymore. Throw in a couple of Liam-does-John-Lennon tracks, a few of Gem and Andy's nearly-but-not-quites and we've got the new Oasis album. I hoped Noel would be saying something along the lines of, 'Actually, we've written shit loads of songs that piss on anything on DBTT and sound as fresh as the stuff that made Oasis so special in the first place.' Instead he spouts some nonsense about 'grooves' that make it sound like it's going to an utter pile of pish. Brilliant.

On the contrary, i rather have him downplay the album.
Chances are, it's gonna be good if not mega. Cos thats the direction they've been heading.....
If he plays up the album, then we have high expectations, which means we're more vulnerable to disappointment.
This album will be different than DBTT. Because no Oasis album sounds like another - and that's the beauty of this band.
Personally, i can't wait for this album....
Oasis have really matured in the last 5 years.

I tend to agree - the last time they took their eye off the "songy" ball we got 7 to 9 minute songs and shit lyrics on BHN; not to rehash the whole 'BHN is great/No it isn't' debate, but even it's staunchest defenders realise that album has a few songs on it that are a bit too long and a couple of shocking lyrics. Am not doom-saying the record or presuming it will be shit - I really hope it will be fantastic - but this is mildly perturbing.

Am not doom-saying the record or presuming it will be shit - I really hope it will be fantastic - but this is mildly perturbing. Keep in mind alot of that was thanks to the fact Noel and Owen Morris were high on the ball 24 hours a day recording that album, which is obviously not the case anymore. Noel's older, now has a couple kids...I really think we're in for something amazing. i think there were some songs on BHN that really were great, but the production just ruined the songs. For instance, Don't Go Away gives me a headache from the 20 layers of guitar and loud thumping drums, but if you've heard Noel play it acoustic, it really is a beautiful song. So I'm hoping now that not only Noel, but Liam has definitely matured (in Liam standards) that this will be more of a put together sound, as opposed to just a bunch of noise and attitude like BHN. I'm reallllllly hoping this new album has more songs like The Masterplan and Little By Little...which were both a little psychedellic and kinda blended a few types of music together. The Masterplan to me sounds like a mix between Pink Floyd, The Beatles and The Moody Blues...which is probably why I can listen to it so much, since I find something new in it everytime I hear it. The only problem is the only songs Liam can really "sing" anymore are the uptempo anthems. I'd expect to hear Noel alot on this new record, especially if Liam keeps growing as a songwriter...

Is anyone else like me in that I'm going to love just about whatever Oasis puts out pretty much no matter what because they're so great that even thier "bad" albums (BHN, some say HC) are still great records?

i hope the new album doesn't have 3 songs sung by noel anymore he's singing a lot these days.. he sang the last two songs released after DBTT (who put the weight of the world on my shoulders and lord don't slow me down)
i think this one will sound MEGA! just have a feeling

I heard that Liam was originally going to sing Mucky Fingers, and tried to get it in the studio, but couldn't. Just imagine Liam singing that song! Or if he sung LDSMD! I agree, the more Liam songs the better, but to a point. I think there should always be two Noel tracks in there.

Noel said in 2004 that DBTT would be psychadelic, and before that he said it would be like The Stone Roses and Highway 61 Revisited...bottomline, we have no fucking idea on what the next album will be like... maybe not even Noel knows it yet

And the end result was a bit Highway 61 Revisited after all, so I don't think those comments were too far wide of the mark. I agree that Noel's descriptions often bear little relation to the finished product but as a hint of what is to come I still find it concerning that 1) they have been going on about the amount of songs left over from DBTT 2) this mention of concentrating on the 'groove' rather than on having really strong tunes 3) Noel's admission that he hasn't got anything to write about any more.

I wouldnt worry too much about that. Noel's being saying for a long time now that after he wrote Rock N Roll Star he had nothing else to say! Yet he produced 5 other albums after that song appeared on DM, and some absolute belters along the way.....

sticking by my guns with the "true rebirth" prediction.
noel's getting older and just hedging his bets these days. Personally, I think it's pretty shortsighted to think that they won't/can't put together 10-11 quality songs.
i think noels more confident than ever after the wide-spread success of DBTT and he just isn't a near-constantly drunk 28 year old anymore.

Hellmuthafucken YEAH! More grooves. I love it!!!! Can't wait to see what kinda gear Andy's gonna use. Hopefully more of a groovy/bass type of album. Something I can chill at home and smoke a few bowls to.

Andy Bell's coming back to Stockholm again for DJ:ing at the club Bangers'N'Mash Saturday 15 December. Does that mean recordings are finished by then? Quote from their site: "Andy Bell will be back from recording in the studio somewhere in Britian."

Didn't Liam say they were recording until the 15th in the UK and then continue recording and mixing it after the new year in LA?

I remember Liam saying that they only had the Christmas off, so that would mean they should still be recording at the moment?
