Newly released accounts show Oasis paid off Alan White £348,000 to sack him as their drummer.
That means the group have paid out almost one million pounds to change drummers over the years, after original stickman Tony McCarroll was given £550,000 after threatening to sue for £18 million.
When White left the band in 2004 Liam Gallagher claimed it was over something as simple as his girlfriend.
He said, “Turns out he’s hanging out with his bird in Spain. Once the word bird and Spain are mentioned together it’s like, OK, Oasis vs girlfriend.”
The pay-off helped the band’s touring company ’Definitely Maybe’ made a loss of almost £1 million in 2005, according to accounts seen by The Sun.

you mean Noel maybe their management paid him off, not oasis. Either way, getting less than Tony is surprising given that he was on 4 albums. Doens't matter, I liked Alan, but if he didn't like his role I think he would be asking a little too much. He's just a drummer.

I'm sure he's getting more than that. Alan will still get royalties. He was part of the Oasis partnernship (ie, the company) that makes money from all licensing, promo, compilations etc..i'm sure he's not cut off from future royalties.

Of course not. He will get royalties for all of the albums and singles he drummed on. Which is nearly 5 albums of material, counting the Masterplan.
Does this mean they are doing this so they can include Zak Starkey in the band?

No, I don't think so. Again, I think its something to do with how the "Oasis brand" is setup. Not just royalties but other stuff. Tee-shirts, posters, likenesses, etc. I could be wrong but I thought I remembered reading that part of the reason Andy and Gem got paid so little for their first tour was because the Oasis partnership was just Noel, Liam, and Alan at that point.

So Starkey's future inclusion (I think he will be included once his tour with the Who finishes) has nothing to do with this? I thought that it has to do with that. So, Oasis are now Noel, Liam, Andy and Gem without White. I think that they are doing it now, because of Starkey. They didn't do it right after Alan's departure, but they are doing it now. Which has to do something with the new contract they are going to sign and probably with Starkey's future membership in the band me thinks.

No, according to the story they did this in 2005 and posted a financial loss which I find hard to believe. A band doesn't come off of their most successful tour $1 million in the red. Noel wouldn't have been doing all the free Stop The Clocks promo shows if they came off the last tour in the red..So while I don't doubt that Alan was bought out of the partnership, the numbers and other details don't sound right.

It all depends how much they spent to make it. DBTT was super expensive to make since they spent time in about 5 or 6 studios, worked iwth 2 drummers, 2 engineers/producers in paul stacey in dave sardy, 2 or 3 other engineers, mastering was at least 50k alone....they spent a lot...how much i dont know but id imagine up in the half a million range.

Anyways, why they are doing this now? They could have done it after he left 3 years ago. But now? I still think it is tight with Zak Starkey's proposed future membership in the band. He was invited in the band after the end of the band's tour in April 2006. He played on their Hall of Fame induction and the band aren't recording a follow-up because they are waiting for him to be available, because The Who are touring till June and are probably finishing at Glasto and Wembley Arena.
