In covering the Oasis hit “Wonderwall” for the compilation album “Punk Goes ’90s,” the band Cartel was making a subtle point.
“I’m the youngest member of the band at 22, but we are old souls,” said Cartel’s Will Pugh. “We’re not like Sum 41 or Simple Plan. The bands we admire and want to be like are Pearl Jam or Oasis.”
Cartel’s youthful pop, exemplified in the band’s burgeoning hit “Honestly,” has caught on within the likewise youthful pop-punk crowd, but songs such as “The Minstrel’s Prayer” and epic two-part “Q” and “A” reveal something deeper within the band’s sound........

They say that they're not like Sum 41 or Simple Plan, but they still have the same banal whine vocal style

All these "punk" covers sound the same. They turn good tunes into intestinal music. Sounds shit as hell.

to be honest... i was kinda surprised the song wasn't just wonderwall palm muted and played poorly. (Which is what punk bands usually do)
Musically, I thought it wasn't that bad. I do however, absolutely hate the whiney vocals...

good vocals, decent guitars (no more than oasis actually do...). I think that as long as the lead singer doesn't jazz up his singing to omuch he's not half bad. I thought it was alright.
