LATEST: OASIS rocker has been branded "ignorant" after urging injured British troops to stop complaining about their post-war treatment and declaring they shouldn't have joined the army if they feared being wounded. The GO LET IT OUT hitmaker believes the current war in Iraq is "an almighty cock-up" by the British and US governments, but doesn't sympathise with returned soldiers who seek compensation for their injuries. But his outburst has been blasted by the UK's National Gulf Veterans and Families Association, with trustee RAY BRISTOW insisting Gallagher has thousands of ex-servicemen to thank for his freedom. Bristow says, "I think he's an ignorant man - ignorant in the sense of not understanding. "He is in a privileged position in society where he is able to have free speech and make comments like he has made. "But what enables him to have that privileged position and have free speech has cost this nation thousands upon thousands of soldiers, sailors, airmen and merchant seamen."

Well, Noel opened his mouth this week and said some controversial things. More controversial than usual as a matter of fact...

Noel should shut it making comments like that, it's one thing getting a few headlines by slagging off Bloc Party, it's another to do it at the expense of people who have been to war.

I think in a round-about way he was trying to say "Don't sign up for the army, don't go over to Iraq and shoot at others but then bitch when you get hurt yourself." There's some validity to what he says, but well...not exactly the most appropriate people to comment on. He'd be better served lobbing attacks at the government than the soldiers.

It's true though.
If you don't want to die, don't join the fuckin' army.
In other news, I think that's the first time I heard some say the Go Let It Out rocker.

Yeah, dude but, theres a way to say things. The way Noel went on about it (or the way the press wrote it up) just didnt/doesnt sit well ,with even us folks who are against the war. Have some tact.

It's true though. If you don't want to die, don't join the fuckin' army. God it's so simple aint it. I'll say it again, they're not suing cos their lives were put in danger, their suing because the least they should expect when they're invalided back home cos they've had their legs blown off by a suicide bomber is a little financial protection while they try to sort their lives out. It's yet another disgusting part of Blair's war that these people are having to sue because Blair and the MoD couldn't give a shit about them while they're out there, and certainly don't when they get home.

I wasn't talkng abou that, I have no clue what the fuck is going on. If you don't want to die, don't join the army. There's obviously a higher chance of someone dying when you're on the battlefield. To be honest, I don't care what the fuck Noel thinks about politics. As long as he doesn't put that shit in the music, I'm fine.

True, it's like the whole taking drugs is like drinking tea or whatever. Not exactly Noel's best moment.

My cousin's husband to be is going to Afghanistan after his wedding this weekend. Brave lad though obviously Noel is forgetting many people like him aren't fighting but helping the rebuilding process. Or are you siding with a guy who never has seen the damage?

If someone feels they are defending the country they love and joins the army to help their counrtymen, the government should take care of their injuries.

I have to say this comment of Noel's is probably the most stupid thing he has ever said. It comes off looking like he's saying the British troops are the bad guys- not the terrorists who have wounded them. As for his ridiculous remark that the troops want to kill... well what would Noel suggest? Soldiers who are unable or unwilling to destroy the enemy. Brilliant srategy General Gallagher. As far as not putting yourself in harm's way Noel is no expert as his past drug history clearly shows. Then there is the government welfare matter- was it not Noel who was on the dole, as you say, for years.
