Oasis and U2 Set for Chart Battle
Rock giants Oasis and U2 are set for one of the biggest chart battles in years when they both release best-of albums on November 21.
U2 put out their first release for Mercury records entitled U218 Singles whilst Oasis release Stop The Clocks. Both releases will come bundled with extras and confident Oasis chief songwriter Noel Gallagher has told Hotpress that "We'll Win".
However, both bands could loose out in the top spot if the rumours are true, and Gun N’ Roses decide to release their long awaited Chinese Democracy album on the same day, furthermore, big selling rappers Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg both have new studio albums slated for release at the same time.

if guns'n'roses release chinese democracy, it will win in the US definitely. I can see Oasis still pulling it off in the UK though. If there's no G'n'R release, well, neither will make it #1 in the US because the general public in the US tends to lean towards hip hop, so Jay-Z will probably be #1

"Rock giants Oasis and U2 are set for one of the biggest chart battles in years when they both release best-of albums on November 21." Rubbish - who's interested in such a stupid "battle"

not in the states: just looking at how their albums sold
U2 Boy -Platinum October -Platinum The Unforgettable Fire -Platinum x3 The Joshua Tree -Platinum x10 Achtung Baby -Platinum x8
Oasis Definitely Maybe -Platinum WTSMG -Platinum x4 BHN -Platinum
(all certified by the RIAA and based of sales in America)
as you can see U2 has a much bigger following in the US then does oasis which leads me to believe that their hits album will be bigger here.

the edge is great. bono is going bald (hiding it well for years though). I got to say U2 have too many love songs for my liking. So those records by U2 are bought by all the broken hearted fans. Sad really. lol.....

Oasis will make the top 20 in America, with U2 and the others dominating the top 5. In the UK, I reckon' Oasis will make #1, but I'm unsure. For all of you living in the UK, how popular is U2 compared to Oasis?

With no promotion Oasis won't crack top 40 albums in U.S.
No one other than Oasis fans, even know this is coming out.

It would be also hard in UK. Too many albums coming out on this day or week. U2, Foo Fighters, Take That, All Saints... They will have a competition in the own family ;-)

It would be also hard in UK. Too many albums coming out on this day or week. Exactly and let's not forget that STC is a double disc album. Far more expensive than others.

honestly I'm not sure if any best of's make it that far up the charts in the US.
Yea U2 already has a good best of out in the 80's compilation. Also don't forget that Oasis isn't the only one releaseing a dvd U2 is releasing a live DVD with their greatest hits.
Does anyone know the tracklist for U2?

They finally got one thing right: "But there is no question Oasis will come out on top." No fucking way All Saints could take Oasis out. No fucking way.

I don't know how it will do in Australia, see no publicity at all. On rollingstone there is a current thread about STC ( I honestly didn't start it but its on the main music board so lets help them out?) forums.rollingstone.com/showthread.php?t=2251

OASIS frontman LIAM GALLAGHER is confident he will come out on top when he goes head-to-head with longterm girlfriend NICOLE APPLETON in a UK chart battle. Appleton's reformed girl band ALL SAINTS release their comeback album in Britain on 20 November (06) - the same day OASIS' greatest hits collection STOP THE CLOCKS hits shops. When asked if he thinks Appleton - who is the mother of his son GENE - will come out on top, Gallagher replied, "No f**king chance!"

The Beatles album "LOVE" is being released on the same day now... it's the project George Martin and his son put together with Paul and Ringo's permission. Being released in multiple formats as well and has so called "new music" on it...
