what are some of you people even comparing DM and Oasis with the Artic Monkeys record for? DM was released in 1994, it's now 2006 incase you hadnt noticed. I'm willing to bet that if DM came along now, it would be panned. It was right for its time and is a classic record, but it's 2006 now and whether you like them or not, Artic Monkeys are the here and now. fucking right man

I know this isn't news to most of you, but they mentioned on Discover and Download that they were honoured to be compared to Oasis and that Oasis are their heroes. Don't put too much into that, mate. If they were compared to the Smiths, they'd say the same thing. UK press loves to hype bands to compete with America. Personally, I think the Monkeys are alright, nothing too special and certainly not the same impact as Oasis. The comparison only goes as far as timing; musically they are incomparable. Noel loves their vibe, and likes their music. The one true band to compare Oasis to would be the Roses in that each filled musical voids. I always say this, and I think it rings true to this day: If the Roses hadn't lost their nerve and put out a second album quicker and with more quality, Oasis' impact would have been far different.

I read somewhere that Alex and Matt of Arctic Monkeys once played as Oasis in a school talent show or something. They've both mentioned in interviews their admiration for Noel as a songwriter but their music takes influence from all sorts of things. The first two albums it was all this post-punk revival The third one was a lot darker, a lot more QOTSA The fourth one, my personal favourite had a lot of 60's influences The soon to be released fifth album has been influenced by hip-hop, so we are told.
I guess there are too many influences in their music to pass Oasis off as the main one, I guess they just enjoy Oasis' music and make their own - two separate things.

Yeah i read that too, shows Oasis as the main influence for them starting the band in the first place. Musically they have they're own sound but make no mistake if Oasis didn't exist then the monkeys may never have formed.

This year at Glastonbury Arctic Monkeys performed a much lighter sounding performance, one of their fan classics.. I get the feeling this performance was inspired by noel gallagher at the river plate stadium in 2009.
They also finished off the performance with the lyrics, "at least not today" , taken from the song dont look back in anger..

Great band, more consistent than Oasis, none of their albums come close to Oasis 94-6 but they keep on progressing and trying different things. For me they have got better with time, humbug and SIAS are my favourites. Im not that keen on what ive heard from AM but it sounds like once again they have gone down a new direction.

I remember listening to Steve Lamacq show on Radio 1 years ago. It was the week when Steve was on holiday and a band took his show over every night. Noel presented one night and Arctic presented the other night. I found quite interesting to hear the tunes they played during the show cos it wasn't kind of music I normally listen to. Alex Turner is a talented young man.

Arctic Monkeys don't sound like Oasis very much at all. They compare more favorably to The Strokes.
AM is a good band. End of story. I personally loved their 4th album, Suck it and See. Their debut album, which outsold Definitely Maybe in the UK btw, is a classic. I don't understand all of the hate.
And of course we all know Oasis is the best thing that's ever happened to music since The Beatles. That's a given.
