COLDPLAY are delaying the release of their next single, because they want to avoid a head-to-head race with rockers OASIS for the UK number one spot.
The two groups have build bridges in recent months and Coldplay frontman CHRIS MARTIN is keen not to jeopardise his friendship with Oasis guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER.
An record industry insider tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "Coldplay have moved FIX YOU back to a September release because their current single SPEED OF SOUND is still getting such great airplay on the radio.
"I'm sure they are aware that Oasis were due to release on the same day, but that probably didn't affect their decision."

Give Chris credit even if he did 'bottle it'.
He doesn't want to battle with Oasis. He seems like a genuine fan and friend of the band to me.

I think they made the right move. If Coldplay wouldn't have moved the date, I would like to think that Oasis would have. We don't need another Brit pop war again.

totally agree with the three above. august 1995 was just pathetic. there is no war goin on and chris is wise to silence any talks of another match up against oasis.

I don't think you can say Coldplay "bottled" it. Martin's band are huge all over the world right now - No #1 in the USA is no mean feat. With the best will in the world we should maybe be thankful it got moved so that Oasis didn't finish behind them and look like vaginas.

i dont think it would have been the battle everyone seems to think would be, first week sales of any oasis single are always very high, where as coldplays have more of a lasting appeal to your average music buyer oasis would have been number one regardless of weather coldplay released there single on the same day i personally think they moved it coz they desperatly want a number one single you can tell chris martuin was pissed of about been beaten by a frog last time ;D

noel and chris seem really respect eachother so its not much of a battle cos i think noel would be fine with being no2 to coldplay had it turned out that way, and same way chris martin would be fine with coming second to oasis - so i dont think it was the reason fix you was pushed back, i think the 'excuse' that speed of sound is doing well sounds more plausible

i think fix you is the better song, but apperently the video will be a live shot, from one of the nights in Bolton, and with the album having done so well i cant really see it selling much more than the 10,000 mark

I think TIOBI would have sold more than Fix-You in the first week. Do people collect Coldplay singles?

Fix You is the stand out track from X&Y and I fucking love that song but the Importance of Being Idle is not even the best song on DBTT and it is better than Fix You.
IMO.
