NOEL GALLAGHER is convinced LIVE 8 will never achieve its lofty aim of persuading politicians from the world's richest countries to eliminate debt owed by poorer nations.
The outspoken OASIS guitarist believes rock stars simply don't have the influence needed to affect the G8 decision makers - and believes all their hard work will be in vain.
He says, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but are they hoping that one of these guys from the G8 is on a quick 15 minute break at Gleneagles (in Scotland) and sees ANNIE LENNOX singing SWEET DREAMS and thinks, 'F**k me, she might have a point there, you know?'
"KEANE doing SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW and some Japanese businessman going, 'Aw, look at him... we should really f**king drop that debt, you know.'
"It's not going to happen, is it?" 22/06/2005 21:26

funny, perhaps true - I think the point is to influence voters more so than the politicians themselves who will then want to attract the voters.
geldorf pisses me off though - I mean for him to luanch this charity thing what does he lose? Absolutely nothing. In fact he gains a lot since he's a huge has-been in terms of appearance. WHEREAS it's a huge political risk for a politician to just drop the debt. So I find geldorf's claims very irritating b/c it is a huge risk and sacrifice for the politicians and absolutely nothing for him. He's just so smug and self-righteous about it.

i can see noels point, but i certainly dont disregard the people involved as easily. and the US and UK have agreed and made preogess ona proposal for debt relief for the worlds poorer antions - not to say this is a direct result of this campaign, but the highly publicised nature of this cause and the pressure surely has had some effect on the decisions made by politicians who are responsible at the end of the day to us voters.
i doubt U2 would be 'some random 80s band' if not for bono running aorund advocating for various causes - i mean the joshua tree will always be excellent no matter what.
disregarding U2 for what bono does, is to me, is as annoying as all the people who refuse to like oasis cos liam is arrogant. and thats the thing - i dont deny that bono has got publicity for hsi band through his advocating for various causes, and similarly liam has gained oasis a lot of press attention for his antics. but with both bands, if you listen to the music alone they still stand out as top bands and thats all that counts, in my opinion
