What Noel probably meant was 'I despise all that MTV-shit and the gangsta-culture'. Jurassic 5 is a good example of hip-hop that's about the music.
I mean, rhytm music, electonic music, mixtures of this and that, there's a lot of good stuff out there. Jay-Z's 99 Problems is a great rock-tune to me.

J. Velvert, you beat me to the punch at throwing props to Jurassic 5. I saw them at Coachella a few years back when Oasis performed. They were great. As far as main stream goes, I really only like Kanye.

I don't really like Jurassic 5 but I recognise it as GOOD music. (if you know what I mean). I'm glad someone brought them up. Still nas, jay z, jurassic 5 are y'know "the exceptions that prove the rule"

It's like saying that if Ace Of Base and Hootie and The Blowfish were the popular acts that would make rock rubbish. You need to find the artists sometimes. Sadly white record company owners have ruined it by pimping it's image for billions of cash. It was not like this in the 80's and 90's. I've done research and i'm happy i know the likes of 2 Pac, Nas, Jay-Z, Run DMC, Public Enemy, NWA, Eric B and Rakimetc.. In this case Noel is being very ignorant. I bet he can't name a rapper on the spot apart from Eminem and 50 Cent.
Ps Eminem is good apart from half of Encore. He's doing with rap what elvis did with rock n roll. You might not like his lyrics in many songs but Stan is a worldwide recognised excellent song.

He imght say that elsewhere but that's not what he's saying here. NOR is he saying that rap, as a genre is complete crap. RATHER he is saying that He hates rap because by and large it inspires negative attitudes, traits etc. Therefore, the fact that there are a few artists who aren't all about bling and killing each other and the fact that some rap sounds good is completely irrelevant to his cliam. |

You might not like his lyrics in many songs but Stan is a worldwide recognised excellent song. i think he was only talking about modern hip-hop... he's said in past interviews that he likes public enemy and n.w.a... he once said that for once he'd like to work with someone who's heard of n.w.a. but i think he is right... i like old hip-hop (not all of it though) but the pretty much everything today is shit... the only thing that comes anywhere close is probably kanye west. |

He's saying he hates the crap attitudes that it inspires. That does not mean that he thinks ALL rap is like this or that ALL rappers are like this and it does not mean that he thinks rap is shit |

Though there is good rap/hip hop like Kelis or Outkast, most of the Rap/hiphop is known for: hate to woman and homo's, crimes, raping/abusing and violence.
The strangest thing is that those musicians claim to be very religious; Christian, Moslim etc.
The stab eachother death and it follows with a prayer.
Children identify with characters like Eminem and want to look and act like him.
But to blame everything on those rappers is dangerous, there are other circumstances in society that let the violence grow in youngsters.
Society is getting harder and thinking about the other person next to you is something we don't do.
The fact that there is so much violence in many gangs is partly to be explained by the position which the members grow up.
Therefore it is important that every citizen in the U.S. and in Europe get supported by the government and community, especially those who grow up in places where the possiblities are low.
Only then the gang circle can be broken and musicians who support hate and violence can have much less impact on them.
What Noel said was right; he talks about the likes of people like 50 cent, not someone like Public Enemy.
