Rockers COLDPLAY felt compelled to scrap everything they had recorded for new album X+Y and start again after watching fellow Brits OASIS confess they had done the same thing.
Frontman CHRIS MARTIN fears he would have continued and put out a far inferior product to the one that's currently getting rave reviews had it not been for Oasis' documentary about the making of their classic debut DEFINITELY MAYBE.
He reveals, "I was at home watching this DVD that came out last year (04)... and watching how they (Oasis) started off very technological and trying to do everything perfect, with great studios and (it) ended up just being the five of them in a room, bashing out the songs.
"I suddenly realised that's really what we haven't been doing, so we went back to a tiny rehearsal space and we started the album all over again.
"So a large part of that is thanks to the Definitely Maybe DVD."

i love x & y personally, cant wait to see them haha We can tell.... But I think it's cool. It's your taste and nobody (even our beloved forum brethren) has the right to bash you. Personally, I think that Ryan Adams' Cold Roses is better than DBTT. I love Oasis, but it's just a better album and that's that. So I'm full on beside you, man. Though I haven't heard X&Y yet.

Hey Jabasso, are you serious about Ryan Adams? Better than DBTT? I got the new Ryan Adams, I am a big fan and have all his albums, and jeez that thing is mediocre. There is so much filler and a few just completely unnecessary tuneless songs. Really should have been 1 CD. I am really disappointed with it. I'm going to have cross him off my 'Buy on the first day without needing to hear it first'list. And I saw him in concert here in LA and it was bad, there were a lot of people walking out. He was so drunk on red wine. Anyway, Chris Martin sure talks about Noel a lot lately, that's cool.

I saw Ryan on Letterman the other day and he played a country music.. no offence, I think he's a good musician, such as the coldplayers but god.. better than Oasis? That's a bit rough. BTW, X&Y is overhyped. And I didn't like it. Just watched the gig which Chris hugs Noel and it was cool. Very depressing and boring but cool.

its interesting..i came across a couple or articles slagging of coldplay, perhaps im slow to pick up but they were the first e=ones i think i have ever seen that show them in a less that grand light, like a mini backlash at the least, which is interestingly coinciding with them beign touted as being the best band in the world.
i dont know what to think, i do really like their past 2 albums, and i like the fact that martin respects oasis. i think i must be the only person who hasnt rushed to get X & Y, well and i didnt download it, but i'll probably get it on the weekend

It's funny that Coldplay has just become the big band all of a sudden, with quite possibly what is their worst effort to date. I think the album is a good album, it has some absolutely fantastic songs on it. But in my view its just more in the same, like, there's no progression at all. Chris can write a mean ballad, but there needs to be more then just ballads and 80's-ish synth to get me interested. Now, Coldplay's position with their 3rd album was a difficult one, cuz its like they either continue what their doing, which really really works well, or try something new, which would have been the more ambitious undertaking, but it would have also been more of a risk. In the end, I guess they went with the safe route, and I guess its for the better, because I would prefer to have the kids of America listening to Coldplay over fuckin Linkin Park of Fiddy Cent. But, compared to DBTT, this being my opinion, it doesnt match up; mainly because DBTT has a depth in songwriting that the Gallagher's had never delved into. It's a brilliant album in terms of content and concept. Granted, mine is a biased opinion of course. And I had to mention this; I love Ryan Adams, but Cold Roses aint his best stuff by far. But if you want to hear an unexpectedly great album, listen to the new Foo's album, its fuckin brilliant, and the 2nd CD is beautiful.

I'd take coldplay before those suckers, but I can't stand Ryan Adams. And by foo's you mean foo fighters, right?
