This might sound a bit strange or like I'm over analysing things too much, but is it just me or does DBTT sound more honest or more relaxed and real than the last two Oasis albums that preceeded it? What I mean is that with SOTSOG it seemed like they were going out of there way to sound a bit different, with a lot more in the way of strange production and effects etc. And on HC it sounded to me like Noel was trying to hard to recapture the mid-90s kind of sound, with songs like Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Little By Little, I do like them, but it seemed like Noel was just really trying to write hits and recapture the spirit or success of Morning Glory era stuff.
But with DBTT I just think everything sounds a lot more relaxed and more real. To me Noel's songs like Mucky Fingers, The Importance of Being Idle and Part of the Queue seem much more honest and real than the stuff on HC, if that makes sense.
And I think its healthy because the fact is, they'll never recapture that kind of success from the Morning Glory era. In fact I don't think any current band will. And I'll go one further, the British music industry probably won't recpature that kind of mid-90s success for a very long time. These are all obviously differing styles here, but I mean within a couple of years you had Morning Glory selling 18 million copies, Spice by the Spice Girls selling 26 million or something, other bands like Radiohead and The Verve selling loads of copies of OK Computer and Urban Hymns respectively. Then you had Robbie Williams become huge by the late 90s. I don't think the British Music industry will have so many huge acts at one again (though admittedly the Verve and Radiohead aren't on the Oasis/Spice Girls level, you know what I mean, they sold a lot more than the likes of Kasabian etc. today).
So I think all in all DBTT is a far more relaxed, honest and healthy record than HC or SOTSOG, any thoughts?

I pretty much think you are right on point.

Didn't Urban Hymns by the Verve sell like at least 5-7 million world wide? And most of it is very un-commercial sounding. Lucky they had a couple of radio-friendly tracks on there like Bittersweet Symphony and Drugs Don't Work. Great days! Shame Ashcroft's solo stuff has been so shit. He needs Nick McCabe (Verve guitarist).

Well I don't think the SOSOG era was dishonest. But he was a little too eager to show that he could do more than dm/mg/bhn style rock. HC was totally dishonest feeling except Liams songs. Even Hindu Times, while it is a top song. It's like "HI GUYS I WANNA BE LIFE FOREVER"
DBTT is definitely their most honest record. It just feels good.

My problem with HC is that Noel's songs seem a bit dishonest like shortdude said, and for me Liam's songs were just average, especially BOADC & BM which started with promise but didn't seem to go anywhere for me.

To me it's more of a laid back record...they sound like they enjoy themselves and make music for music's sake...with SOTSOG and HC they were trying to be relevant and they were tryin' to hard...right now they don't want to prove anything or doesn't seem like it...just want to make good music And it worked wonders imo.
