if oasis walked off stage at knebworth and said thank you very much thats us - then released be here now - oasis would be titled the best band in history and that album would be in the hailed in the top 5 ever initially yeah, but thats only because everyone thought they were invincible. Over time people would have realised though. I don't think ts AS bad as some people make out but it is pretty poor.

everything noel has said about that album is spot on. its soulless, lengthy, unimaginative and coke fuelled. It only has 3 good songs: DYKWIM, MP and FIO. the rest are rank You're forgetting the best song on the album - Don't Go Away.

I really like BHN but I can see why many people hates it...I can grow a beard while listening that album.. "I can grow a beard while listening that album.." someone said to me same thing last night... Girl in the Dirty shirt is fantastic. agreed.

A song being long isn't a bad thing A song being overly repetitive and soulless IS. Well said. I can never fathom why some fans think it's the best album. Still, it makes for fantastic "heated debates" so it's all good. Gives us something to rant about, eh?

HC was off the standard...too many songs for the chicks

Dont call me a wank, its my opinion. Just like you have yours, and nobody is insulting you. But other than that, you are right about the chik songs. Still top songs in my opinion.

When it comes to Oasis fans I find that a lot of them either love or hate BHN. Those who love it, usually say that it's their favorite album. That's just from personal experience, talking to other Oasis fans.

Here's the deal. Personally, I think all the songs are good and I like all of them. If I go to a specific track I really enjoy it. I hope I think I know, Be Here Now, My big mouth, all of them. I can have it on every single one.
However, I find it very difficult to get through the whole album. As a whole it just doesn't work, it's too much. Maybe it's soulless, I don't know. I try to think of which tracks the weakest and which one I would take off but I don't want to take any of them off. Maybe they needed a few 2-3 minute songs to break up the songs or something. They had enough material for 2 albums, may have been a wiser idea.

I don't know where all this souless talk is coming from. Stand By Me souless? Don't Go Away souless? Nah Fair point. But then again some of the songs do support that argument - the title track for example, or My Big Mouth - which perhaps more accurately aren't soulless but have had all the soul wrung out of them by being buried under tons of guitar sludge and lose their point through being overlong or boringly repititious.

Anyway repetition can be a great thing in music. If you think Be Here Now is repetitive you should listen to some Spiritualized or something.

The title track, or My Big Mouth - which perhaps more accurately aren't soulless but have had all the soul wrung out of them by being buried under tons of guitar sludge and lose their point through being overlong or boringly repititious. I agree in some ways and definitely think that alot of the songs sound great in isolation but put together as an album don't really work. That is why I'd probably say Be Here Now is an excellent group of songs if not an excellent album. It would be interesting to see what the band would do to the album if they were to rerecord it now (as U2 are doing with Pop). My Big Mouth may actually be the good song that it has the potential to be without the 698 blaring guitars treacling the sound). Of course this will never happen as Noel has disowned the album.

If Oasis had split soon after Knebworth , and Noel were to release Be Here Now as a solo album , then I'm sure it would be considered a classic...

in my opinion bhn is one of the great underrated albums & in many years time will be realised as such when our children hear the legend of oasis & will pick the album up without prejudis. my dad reckons a lot of the "classic" beatles albums were slated at the time

Be Here Now is really good.
My favourite Oasis albums in order are:
1. Definitely Maybe 2. Be Here Now 3. Standing on the Shoulder of Giants 4. Don't Believe The Truth 5. Heathen Chemistry 6. (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
