We'd never twigged until reading today's Independent how much Paul Morley hated Oasis.
Then again, it had never crossed our minds. Nonetheless, the veteran music and pop-culture critic lays waste to the monobrowed mad-for-it Mancs as their new album is heralded as a return to form.
Morley says that in his top 50 list of the best bands to come out of Manchester, Oasis rock up at No47, "just below Northside, and just above Simply Red".
Ouch.
He then quotes Morrissey's take on the Gallaghers ("A couple of painter and decorators from Burnage") and then warms further to the dissing theme.
"I always felt that they (Oasis) were not even as Quo as rumoured, not as Mott (the Hoople) as I would have liked, and more ELO than Beatles, more Lynne than Lennon."
Really hitting his stride, Morley thunders: "It all came down to a camp haircut , a comedy walk and a way with swearwords that seemed more Bernard Manning than Iggy Pop...more Heat than NME."
Best keep out of Noel and Liam's way for a while, Paul old son.

Clearly the guy is a treacherous little twat. He deliberatley misinterpets Morrissey- Morrissey's actually comments were that Oasis was the best Manchester band since The Smiths. He only said that he wished Liam seemed more into on stage because being a rock n roll star is a lot better than being a painter from Manchester.

paul morley comes from the julie birchill/tony parsons rock critic stable.
it was cool to like oasis when the first album came out but not now.
morley is a fan of what is cool to like before the masses catch on to it, then it is not cool anymore.
he liked the first couple of clash albums and then they were uncool and went on to do london calling....
a bit like oasis, they just plod on doing what they do and being slagged off by morley simply because they aint cool in his circle of friends.
remember that morley was promo manager for "frankie goes to hollywood" a bigger bunch of talentless wankers you will never see again!
when oasis split you will have that prick write an epitath for the band saying how important they were to british music/culture...etc..
the guy is a total dick! always has been.
if you like music, be it the spice girls then be true to yourself and just like it.
never listen to wankers like morley to deside what is cool to like.
listen to your ears.
