Ever had an argument over Oasis?
Mine was in 8th grade. I got into it with a kid who said Metallica was superior to Oasis. I still remember the madness at the whole thing.

I have the exact situation right now with me and my mate we're in the same rock band at school for christ sakes, but he reckons Metallica is so much better and its been going on for like a whole year... its more like a friendly thing, but atleast I know I'm winning cos our band plays oasis and not metallica  |

Just reply St Anger!!! That song was truely awful, Metallica are long dead, although I was a massive fan and some of their early albums were great!

Well, I playfully argue with one of my friends about Bloc Party Vs Oasis. But, I actually like Bloc Party aswell - although obviously not as much - so it's a bit childish really. Whenever anyone tells me they think oasis are rubbish though, I usually just ignore them, as they generally do like some proper crap, and believe all the rubbish that's written about the gallaghers.

Some people just say Oasis suck and have no reason so I frequently win the 'daily argument' over Oasis. It is so funny because I just say to them all the time - Name one band who has sold more records and is actually more musically talented than Oasis from the 90s. They usually change the subject rather quickly.  |

Once in high-school I had to write a paper about massive sociological facts, and I wrote about music of course, about oasis' success in the 90's, sowhen I got up in front of the class and read it I said oasis were still the best band in the world (this was in 2001), and when I said that everyone was going like "shut up!!!", and "there yo go with your oasis bullshit again", but then I told them about the amount of records MG had sold and that it was number 3 all time in the billboard charts (even above nevermind from nirvana), and the knebworth gigs and that. And they all had to shut up about it. They actually know something about music now.

They actually know something about music now. go you!! ha ha, everyone i know has realised its a pointless argument cos i'm gonna win it =) so they just shut up and put me in a 'dont mention oasis around that girl' box....unless they want a full fledged rant occasionally someone will dare challenge me, but i'll so shut them down with using my ever present extensive knowledge of oasis that sits in my head just for such occasions, and list off all the amazing things they have done. if that doesnt convince them then i lend them DM to listen and be in awe, and if they still dont get it, i hit them over the head and walk away cos i realise nothing can help them |

i just bring up knebworth, my teacher said to me today actually they are just plagerisers of the beatles to which i said, sorry i didnt relise the beatles sold out 2 nights at knebworth after only 2 albums, one being the fasted selling debt album ever and the other the 2nd most succesful british album of all time, 2nd to an album which has had 35 more years to sell,

Flashbax - ATTA boy ! Put up yer dukes ! I bet you won ! Please expand, you'll get me riled up and I'll LOVE IT ! Who-ah ! I however, only get into it occasionally Stateside. I almost got into a row with a family member but I kept calm. (this whole non-reactive thing is all new to me in my 30's mind you..) So anyways, He saw oasis back in mid 90s in philly (rough crowd to begin with, those Eagles fans want to be drunk. LOUD and entertained) and they played 4 songs (as the headliner) and got off. He said they looked "pissed off" (well duh, that's the whole point ? Don't be going to an oasis gig and expect them to thank the LOVELY audience, for a "nice time" and have Liam dance and chit chat. LOL !) In my defense, I went on about how young liam was, the drugs, Noel's control issues, etc. and how it was amazing they both showed up... OK Flashbax, waiting to here from ya ! Tamara |

well i was in 8th grade and on a bus going somewhere on a field trip. my entire school was into the metal scene at the time and so 1 person trying to defend oasis against a bus of 60 metal morons was impossible to win. i made my points and sat down, put my headphones back on and listened to morning glory again to prove to myself how right i was

I do have arguements with people at work about Oasis being the best band ever. They say to me do you like Oasis then? And they say something along the lines of 'oh, they've passed it now' and I used to react to it by saying something like 'Name me one band who have done what they've done since'. But now I just sit back and think 'well I've got something special that you'll never have and I'll experience things you'll never go through' and I think thats the best way to react to it. Fuck 'em.
Let them listen to the 'latest artists' who, 99% of the time are total shite. I couldn't give a toss.

I'm in my mid-30s (just a little younger than Noel, mind you), so my arguments about music are few and far between these days. But if I'm ever "challenged" about Oasis, I say totally irrational and stubborn things like "in my opinion, the Beatles and every other band in the history of rock n' roll existed so that one day, Oasis could steal all the best parts of their songs!" Totally not true, of course, and way over the top, but it diffuses the situation, everyone has a laugh, and makes people who think they're dripping with musical integrity because they like whatever trendy band is in vogue that week feel like total twats for taking everything so seriously.
