So I've fought against liking Heathen Chemistry ever since it came out...When I first heard it, I hated every minute of it. Eventually I came to like "She is Love" and "Little by Little," but I wasn't into much beyond that.
Now I'm forcing myself to sit down and listen to it blasting after work, and I'm digging everything up through "Little by Little" so far. Theres still a few things that I'm not totally into...and I have a feeling I still won't like "Born On a Different Cloud" or "Better Man", but i'm glad that the rest of the record has grown on me.

And, furthermore, I'm really getting excited for the new record!!!
Its so weird, I totally didn't listen to Oasis for like 3 or 4 years while I was in college...I guess I figured that I had sort of outmatured them (especially considering the other stuff I listen to...more indie rock or loud, screamy rock type stuff)...I'm also seeing them for the first time in September.

how can you outmature oasis and start lestening to loud screamy music, thats like saying you've out grown john lennon and stated listening to the village people.

"Outmature" is a really stupid word. I shouldn't have said that. I just mean that I listened to Oasis A TON when I was 13-18. Then I just stopped listening to them for like 4 years. I was already in completely different stuff when I was 17 or 18...I just started spending more time listening to other things that were more interesting to me.
As for why I didn't like HC at first - I guess I'm still holding Oasis on this pedestal of my younger days and hoping for them to release something with the bombast and density of WTSMG again...I know they won't, and I'm learning to just appreciate what they're doing.
I don't expect many people to understand what I said about "screamy stuff"...because I doubt most people here listen to the sorts of stuff I listen to (not sayin that out of arrogance, just not the sort of crowd that would like them). I would feel stupid even explaining what I mean. So I'll just leave it where it lies.

How about a reconsideration of SOTSOG?
Personally, I think it's their most underrated record. Yes, there are some poor songs on it. But there's also some really good stuff. Had Coldplay or Travis released songs like "Gas Panic," "Sunday Morning Call," "Roll It Over," or "Where did it All Go Wrong?" they would've been hailed as instant classics.
I've never been that into HC, personally. But if you like it, good for you. I enjoy it, but I don't like it as much as the others.

i totally agree that sotsog is underatted, admittedly it is probably the weakest album but it kind of puts into consideration that bhn is so underatted when u see the huge step down it takes from bhn 2 sotsog, only reason i think bhn is so underatted is bcuz it is always compared to dm and wtsmg if bhn was a debut album it would have been huge in its own right

SOSOG has like 6 amazing songs, but as an album the shit tracks bring it down.
HC isn't the greatest. It's mediocre for Oasis. I love Born on a Different Cloud. Hindu Times is good. Gotta like Songbird. But a lot of it seemed like they were trying much to hard to be the Old Oasis. Can't do that.

I actually really like SOTSOG. Aside from "I Can See A Liar" and "Little James" I think its a pretty great record...
HC is kind of mediocre...the lyrics aren't that great, the vocals aren't that great...but overall it works. I would rather something on par with the older oasis material (quality-wise, not necessarily sound-wise), but it is what it is.

I think Heathen Chemistry is a superb album personally. I like SOTSOG but i think as shortdude said it has 6 good, some even great songs but the other songs really bring the album down...maybe if they added a couple more songs I would like it more. Back to HC, i think it's superb and I love listening to it. The Hindu Times is a great way to start an album or even a gig, reminds me of the days when Rock 'n' Roll Star used to open the gigs as it did on D.Maybe. I loved Little By Little, then hated it, but now i like it...Ok Noel does try and sound important and thoughtful on the song which doesn't come across to well but it's still a very good song. I have never met anybody who doesn't like Songbird. Great song to clap along to. ;D I very much like Hung In A Bad Place, a lovely rock song without going overboard but still having the time to get some great lyrics in...'I choose to devour with ease now' I love that line. Well done Gem! Born On A Different Cloud is Liams finest work to date, imo...even though Songbird is a more likeable and mainstream song. But Better Man is a poor song and I often skip that track. She Is Love is a nice number that (without sounding like a bird or a twat) makes me feel happy when i listen to it. I wish they played (Probabley) All In The Mind live but they haven't. Force Of Nature is OK, But Noel "Smoking all my stash, Burning all my cash!" You can do better than that mate. ;D And all Oasis albums need a good terrace anthem and HC delivers with the heart warming Stop Crying Your Heart Out...i admit not a patch on Wonderwall and i'd take Slide Away over this song any day but it's still superb..."1 for the ladies!" as Liam says. ;D Just my thoughts on the album.

I never understood why Songbird never went higher than #3 on the uk charts. Maybe it had something to do with Liam's bad hair style ;D

Not a big fan of "Songbird," but I've always kind of liked "Heathen Chemistry." My take on it: once upon a time, when bands released 10-song albums every 14 months and toured constantly, a major rock band could get away with a "transitional" album like "Heathen Chemistry," an album that maybe didn't rank among their best but had a few good singles, a couple decent album tracks, and some filler that wasn't absolutely horrible. Now, every release is expected to be a major statement — and with the kind of money we have to pay and the downtime between albums, maybe it should be. But, I sort of see "Heathen Chemistry" a little like that — the band testing the waters, a little tentative, working with a new line-up, anxious to see if they've still "got it."
Of course, that's all hoping that HC is actually a "transitional" album, and that what they come up with next will be better, more assured, and more inspired.
