This is a thread to talk about the Changes oasis has went through, and the one's that will continue to come, and our reactions to them. I kind of summed up everything I have in my mind about the band right now.
Early in the day, Definitely Maybe was just insane. So much passion was inside of that album. Just a couple of lads from manchester-- One being a genius songwriter, another being a unbelievable frontman with a killer voice. Blew us right away. Then Morning Glory came around and put it in concrete-- Oasis were a fantastic band that were truly talented. Through Be Here Now things staled down. Today's music market is always changing, and it takes fierce effort to remain in the public eye. However they still had great tunes.
But then Oasis changed-- SOSOG. Do you guys thing this was a good change? One noticable thing was a bunch of darker tunes. SOSOG took a while to get use to as an album since it wasn't expected, but it was awesome. Gas panic, who feels love, Go let it Out, Where Did It All Go wrong, Roll it Over-- fantastic tunes. Then there was the not so fantastic ones-- Little James, PYMWYMI, I can see a liar. Not that they were horrible, they just felt unfinished. However, the b-sides had some to offer. One Way Road and Let's All Make Believe-- top.
Another change was Liam's voice. He definitely decreased in quality and range-- although he still held something special.
These changes were good. I think we would have lost some interest in Oasis if there was no change. It'd like U2 still trying to be rockstars with their new album. It doesn't work.
At this point Bonehead and Guigs left the band-- Oasis reformed with two new musicians. Heathen Chemistry came out from the new Oasis-- they were still Oasis as their core, Noel and Liam, were still there, but they had two new musicians that would influence them. And they both had matured naturally. The result was kind of dull. Not a bad album by any means, but it wasn't headspinning. Had a number of stand out tracks.
Now what we have is the new Oasis. And I gotta say, from what I heard I love. It still sounds like Oasis. but Fresh. No tracks trying to be Live Forever. However, there are tracks trying to be Mucky Fingers and Let there be loves, which is what we want-- originality. It's coming from the heart, he's not trying too hard. On Heathen chemistry, it seemed like he was trying to hard to write hits some times. Little by Little for example. It just didn't feel natural. Just trying to hard to write a mega song. On SOSOG he didn't do that, it was all very natural. However, the band was still regrouping.
Don't Believe the Truth will be a mega album. The band has finally grouped and is in a whole different mindset than ten years ago. Noel and Liam are older, they all have developed musically (especially Liam). And they are in a band of musicians, not lads who play instruments. They're writing tunes that are natural and come from the inside. From what I've heard, it sounds all unique-- very pure. Oasisy, but still excellent.
But what about the future? Gallagher/Gallagher? or maybe L.Gallagher/Archer partnerships? Andy and Gem singing on some tracks? Is it truly going to become democratic-- will the Cheif still be in command?
The arrogance has certainly faded (Not that it's gone away completely-- It's part of the Oasis blood). Noel as said many times in the recent past that the band is LIAM's band. Not like the early days. Noel and Liam aren't fighting much anymore. Everybody's writing. All that.
There are certainly questions. Liam's voice for one. He was great on Radioaid, but Glasto was terrible, and some more recent gigs weren't up to Par with 94/95/96/97.
However, I think Oasis will continue to grow as a band. They aren't drying out yet. The new stuff sounds fantastic and different then anything before. Oasis will ALWAYS be Oasis. Noel and Liam will always be the core, and will always be the same guys. But Oasis, I feel, are a band who will always entertain us, and always provide great tunes. They are honest, they are real, and they don't try to be anything then what they are. Many bands try to retain a sound they ONCE had. they live in the past. That's not Oasis, and Oasis are still the best band in the world.
I'm excited about the changes--although I wish I heard some more solos, and I do wish Liam's voice was more like the old days-- Oasis are still the best band in the world. ;D

Wow, good post. I can't write as much as that but what I will say is that Oasis have found a new lease of life since Gem and Andy came into the band; Bonehead and Guigsy didn't really offer much in the way of musical ability. Oasis will never write Live Forevers or Cigarettes and Alcohols again; if you want that kind of music then go listen to Kasabian, Razorlight, The Strokes etc. Oasis now write music which is better lyrically and musically to anything they have done before. There still some duds, of course (LJ, PYMWYMI, SIL, FON ), but generally the GLIO, GP, SMC, SCYHO and SBs of this world are superior to almost anything written before 1995. The band certainly did change after BHN for reasons well-documented and I think this was a change for the better - even if it did take us 5 years to see the benefits. With DBTT, I believe we will continue to hear an improvment and now with Gem and Andy, as well as Liam, contributing to the band with song-writing, things can only get better.

the only thing about oasis....there are way too many acronyms!!! i remember when i first got into oasis i was very much 'what the fuck?' at all of them.
im much better aquainted with the terms now. but it really is like a code! and it still occasionally stumps me before i get it a few seconds later. like FON. i had to stare at that for a bit before getting it. but the point, my friends, is that i did. so its all good =)

I then sat there and was like... er... wha?? Then *click*! I have the same problem sometimes... It's cause the band can't keep the damn song names short, so people are lazy and don't want to write out Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and I don't blame them... I agree that the band has gone in a very different direction on the last two records as compared with the first 3 (honestly, the first three have a distinct sound - different for each one, but similar at the core, and then SOTSOG and HC have completely different sounds from ANYTHING that Oasis have done before). And judging from the 6 tracks we've heard off Don't Believe The Truth (Lyla, Mucky Fingers, Let There Be Love, Keep The Dream Alive, Meaning of Soul and A Bell Will Ring), plus the previews in that NME interview thingy, this album is going to be yet another direction. Very stripped back. Which I think will sound really nice, which makes me quite excited for this record. Plus the fact that they've split the songwriting duties. This looks to truly be an Oasis record as opposed to an Oasis performing Noel Gallagher record...
