and i will tell u wat lisa i love bhn but thats me ,but u are dead right if someone sat NOEL down and said they are overproduced and he took 2 minutes off DYKWIM AATW ITS GETTIN BETTER MAN, MAGIC PIE,it would have been radio freindly and another smash good points lisa Cheers mate, appreciate that. Again, sorry if ranted on a bit but (as you can tell) feel quite strongly about BHN. And you're absolutely right, with some scaled back production and a few minutes pruning on the tunes, BHN would have been more radio friendly and successful and, more importantly, just a lot more FUN to listen to, which I think is what turned off a lot of the general public about it.

I've discussed this in many pubs over many stella's!
I won't go into two much detail, I'll just say great songs, great vox, fuck off guitars, and a reflection on where noel and the band were at the time of recording, to me, that all equals a classic record.

i think most of what i want to say have already been said....i agree that it is overproduced, and all around the world isnt as good as noel made it out to be...but that its a great album with fuckin good songs, and that it was unfairly dismissed. so yes....
Be Here Now is GOOD!

bhn is the perfect album to get pissed to..... enough said I would argue that Morning Glory is a better record to get pissed to - Wonderwall, DLBIA, Some Might Say, to name a few highlights, then climaxing with the explosion of Champagne Supernova. I was actually in a pub last Saturday and a group of blokes at the bar (quite far gone) spontaneously burst into "Somewhere you will find me / Caught beneath the landslide..." was great. I've actually got a version of BHN on MD which I made, editing the tracks down (usually the over-the-top musical interludes), and swapping MBM for Stay Young and finishing the album with The Masterplan. I prefer listening to that version - the whole thing only takes an hour, compared to 72 minutes!

Be Here Now has some phenomenal songs. Unfortunately, like has been said, there's just too much going on in each song. I think My Big Mouth and I Hope, I Think, I Know are the best examples of it. The bridge to the chorus in MBM has the bit with the extra sort of vocal swirly bits (I have no idea how to describe it - the bit right before "..caught you sleeping with the enemy"), but it's not necessary. Not to mention that there's like 15 guitar tracks on each song.
The best suggestion that I've heard would be for the band to go back to the recording of it, and remaster it with two guitar tracks, bass, drums and vocals, and make each song not a lot longer than 3:30... Basically release a Be Here Now... Naked type record. Because if you think of the way the songs would sound, it would be AMAZING.
Take the sorta live sound that came out of this tour and put it on a record, because that was Oasis at their best. It's a shame that Noel hates the album so much, because I LOVE the boots from the tour following BHN's release. Be Here Now is one of the best live songs they've ever written.
I wouldn't say that Be Here Now is an underrated record, it's got a reputation for being over-produced, and it's justified. I would say that the band messed it up just a bit, but it's a solid record that's good to listen to once in a while, just not as often as other Oasis albums...

once more a debate about be here now... i've discovered oasis through be here now...this album will always be special for me... ;D when i got it in 1997 i was just listening to it all the time and loved every song on it... i loved the crazyness of the lyrics and all the nonsenses in magic pie...the heavy sound (DYKWIM, My Big Mouth...), the emotion of dont go away and stand by me...and the never ending AATW...loved the first lines of be here now... it really pisses me off when noel says BHN is a shit album with weak songs...if it wasn't good i wont be here today

Be Here Now is good album, not bad at all. The problem of Be Here Now is the same as SOTSOG. Some songs on it aren't reaching the Oasis standard. But as a whole it is a better album then SOTSOG. Fade In Out and Don't Go Away are my favourites of that album. The Girl In The Dirty Shirt, I Hope I Think....,It's Getting Better Man etc. are very weak. Just like Where Did It All Go Wrong and I Can See A Liar on the SOTSOG albums. Replace those songs with great B-sides from both periods and you'll have a superd album.

Be here Now was the first Oasis album i bought, so i love it just for getting me into them. But really there's not any bad tracks on it, they're just long and overdone, i can't think of one i would skip, which is unlike the other albums.

D'yer Know What I Mean - mega Magic Pie - mega Fade In/Out - mega
all the rest are boring and soulless I think. Except for All Around The World which suffers from being too long. Everything is too long, too overproduced. The words aren't very good, and too many needless guitar solo's.

To say be here now is overproduced is like saying the sun's hot. It's not exactly the most understated of albums.

Be Here Now is a truly great album but from a commercial point of view it is sh*t because noone wants to listen to 7 and a half minute songs and of course there's also the fact that there wasn't as many obvious singles on it, Noel said he found it hard thinking of what to put out next.
It's a brill record but you're just plain daft if you expect everyone to think so.
