Just downloaded the album version of "Speed of Sound", well if I thought that live this song sucked, then in studio it's even worse, imo of course. In all the issues and specially the "catchy" issue, Lyla wins by miles. You people will see.

Clocks version 2 all over and i hated that song but ive heard and read that the track to watch is "What if" which is the "scientist" verison 2 if you like, which is a great track. But yeah i prefer Lyla to speed of sound(which i would cos im an oasis head eh!) alot of the time i find myself waiting for something to happen in a coldplay song and nothing(To much piano overkill). But 2 great albums in the space of a few weeks ain't bad is it?. Oh yeah on the subject of new groups singles how about that white stripes pap? How can you do "seven nation army" then release a rock ode to the scissor sisters? cheers doggboy10

Also, I was also waiting for it to go somewhere, it eventually did the chorus and such have some nice hooks anyway, I wan't that impressed and thought talk was better than it Is lyla better than it, well I think most people will not think so at all (sorry!) As for the new white stripes, yeah, totally trying to be the sister sisters, I mean I kind of liked the song but it was so inauthentic

I think coldplay keep to the same single release schedule throughout there releases(same as oasis keeps there release sceme the same) ie: In my place (1 of the worst off A rush of blood....but got a buzz) then followed that up with clocks and the scientist which were the smash singles, and i think the same's gonna happen with this album: speed of sound(average bog standard coldplay track) then apparently the biggie is "what if" Still as i've said before i don't think you can compare them, completely different. But that White Stripes was a major dissapointment in my eyes as there last album was pretty good raw rock not this glam pap cheers doggboy10

The only comparisons between Clocks and Speed Of Sound is that the riff is played on the piano.

The only comparisons between Clocks and Speed Of Sound is that the riff is played on the piano. I did'nt mean it sounded identical, what i meant was that essentially the song is written in much the same vein as clocks, People have always said most oasis songs are same old same old, i think this can also be said of coldplay! To me speed of sound is same old coldplay, which ain't a bad thing as its ok

if you think about it, every success band stick to what they know. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The formula is working for Coldplay and Oasis.

I heard it twice today on the radio here in Philadelphia (which is saying a lot for Coldplays success as there has been no Oasis on the radio here) and both times listened in. I feel it is a good tune but I think Clocks was better as it was newer feeling and was a clear leap ahead from their work on the 1st LP.

I don't think it's the mere fact that the piano is used - it's that the "riff"itself is very similar - just clocks' is faster with a few mroe notes added in - just a thought- listen to it - well that's what occurred to me on first listen at least

speed of sound is standard coldplay which is awesome but it's definitely one of their more average songs. clocks or the scientist are loads better. anyways in my place was my favorite song from the last album.
it doesn't really compare with lyla, it's too different. lyla is way catchier though. i'm not feeling the chorus at all in speed of sound.

let me tell you something people...i think speed of sound is gorgeous. I'm sorry, as an absolutely rabid oasis and coldplay fan (oasis 1st), i have to say martin's voice- coupled with that piano hook is something out of this world for me. I honestly think its clocks better-looking sister.
i love oasis.

In terms of comeback singles I think Coldplay edges it slightly. The chorus is a bit weak but like ^^^ said, it's the vocal and the piano hook. Chris Martin is a legend.
Out of interest, does anyone else think the guitar work is a little U2-esque?

There's an interview with Chris and the guitarist, Johnny. And they said on this album his guitar is more prominent. I really like it on the new single and it does sound a bit like U2 in some areas.
I grew up with Morning Glory and I consider that one of the best albums ever. Having said that I think "Speed of Sound" is incredible and intense, while "Lyla" is subpar. Now if you were going to compare "Speed of Sound" with "Keep The Dream Alive", Coldplay would just slightly surpass that song.

I too think that Speed of Sound is gorgeous. Don't get me wrong, Coldplay will never do for me what Oasis does for me, but when Chris Martin is doing the falsetto during the chorus, that is really beautiful. I like it better than Clocks to be honest. If the other songs on their new album are better than that, we are going to have two extremely good albums within one week of each other. It's going to be a great summer.

to be very honest (and trust me, this is painful) if speed of sound is even remotely represenative of x and y oasis is in for some big trouble as far as being THE popular rock band of the UK...many in america would argue that that crown may already be in coldplays (or close to it anyway) clutches (at least in the states anyway). After listening to the first 5 songs out from DBTT and speed of sound i find my self singing "speed" much more often. i regret to utter these words, but they're the truth. sorry.
