Ok just coz im in a good mood.
EXCLUSIVE 'OASIS UNVEIL NEW ALBUM'
The sixth Oasis album, Dont Belive The Truth, will be realeased on 30 May, preced by a single, Lyla, on 16 May. Speaking exclusively for Q, Noel Gallagher dismissed reports that the making of the album had been especially difficult for the band.
"Its become our Opus Magnus or whatever you call it," he says. Following two years work, the sacking of drummer Alan White and at least one false start, Dont Believe The Truth was finally recorded in London and Los Angeles between the end of last year and the beginning of 2005. All four members of the band (completed by volcalist Liam Gallagher, guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell) have contributed songs to the album for the first time. According to Noel, among the reference points for the album are the likes of Bob Dylan, The kinks, Elvis and, inevitably, Revolver-period Beatles. Zak Starkeym son of The Beatles' Ringo Starr, occupied the drum stool during the sessions, although he is not a permanent member of the band. Report that Starr himself would make an appearance proved to be unfounded. "I've never met him," says Noel. "Because he lives in LA, we were hoping that he might show his face. But he was in England when we were recording the, so it wasn't meant to be." The band first started recording Dont Believe The Truth in the autmn of 2003 in Cornwall, with dance duo Death In Vegas producing. This gave rise to expectations of a more experimental Oasis album, following the straight forward, Beatles influenced approach of 2002's Heathen Chemistry. Although the band were initially bullish about these sessions, the were subsequently scrapped after just three weeks' work. "Those three weeks were like the same ones we'd done Definitely Maybe in, but 10 years after," says Noel. "We were sat in a cloud of smoke going, Man, the planets are fucking aligning, But when we went back to listen to what we'd got it was like Oops, hang on a minute, that doesn;t sound very good."
When asked the root of the problems, Noel is typically frank. "To be honest, we didn't really have the songs." Former Thrills and Hot Hot Heat producer Dave Sardy was eventually recruited as a replacement producer. After being played demos of the new songs, Sardy suggested the band join him in Los Angeles to record at Capitol Studios (made famous by Frank Sinatra and Gene Vincent). Once in LA, they completed the record in a mere eight weeks. "It was a real buzz going to work every morning," says Noel.
The new album features three songs by Liam Gallagher - Love Like a Bomb, The Meaning Of Soul and Guess God Thinks Im Able. Liam previously just one composition to both Heathen Chemistry (Songbird) and 2000's Standing On The Shoulder of Giants (Little James). Noel admits to being impressed by his younger brothers newfound productivity. "He's at the stage I was at 20 years ago, where you're writing song after song," he says.
Liam delivered 25 tracks for possible inclusion on Dont Believe The Truth ("The boys gone fucking mental," says Noel. "Which is good, because it keeps him off the booze...."). Relations between the Gallagher brothers remain as combustible as ever, though. "Its the same as its been since 1994," he notes. When asked what he thought of his sibling attending the premiere of The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie recently, Noel simply says, "No comment."
Oasis' 10-date UK and Ireland stadium tour begins in Glasgow on 29 June. The dates quickly sold out. In the US, the 14,000 tickets for their 22 June show at New Yorks Madison Square Garden were gone in just over an hour. Even though the Oasis camp were taken aback, Noel is not taking the apparent upturn in their fortunes in America for granted. Oasis have struggled to reclaim lost ground in the US since cancelling a tour there in 1996. "Theres been a lot of fucking high-fiving for a gig thats not happened yet," he says of the New York date. "We had to blow out a full West Coast tour last time cos Liam had no teeth!. These thing have nasty habit of turning into a fucking disaster for my band."
One thing is certain. Oasis are set to return to a very different musical landscape. Coldplay are now among the biggest bands in the world and relative newcomers such as Franz Ferdinand have become household names. Noel professes to admiring the songwriting skill of Chris Martin. "The guy can write a fucking song," he says. "I dont know what the fuck he's doing writing songs for Embrace, but he can write a song." Franz Ferdinand also receive the seal of approval. He admits to initially dismissing their debut offering as "a birds album", but know wants to retrieve his copy from girlfriend Sara McDonald, having been "knocked out" by seeing them live. He is less taken with the exploits of for Libertines frontman Pete Doherty. "Its like, listen, son, you wouldn't last a fucking rehearsal in Oasis," he says. "You'd be injecting washing-up liquid into your sphincter within half a fucking hour."
With the release of Dont Believe The Truth, Oasis will have fulfilled their contract with label Song BMG. Noel says the band may use the opportunity to explore other ways to release music. "Part of us would love to release an album on the internet," he concludes. "Just to frighten the living daylights out of the bastards."

Thats it apart from a track listing by Noel. I'll just say that it looks as though track seven could be Stop The Clocks as Noel says "A song thats been around for a long, long time. But it might not make it. Theres a bit of a debate going on at the moment."
I'll post the full track listing article with Noel tomorrow cos i've got to rush off to the pub now cos im late!!!
