Radiohead's Album OK Computer has knocked The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band off the top spot to be voted the greatest of all time. Around 400,000 people voted in a Channel 4 poll for its programme 100 Greatest Albums.
In a similar poll five years ago, the Fab Four's Sgt Pepper won the accolade but this time it slipped to number seven.
Also in the top ten were U2's The Joshua Tree, Nirvana's Nevermind, Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, Definitely Maybe by Oasis, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Like A Prayer by Madonna and Appetite For Destruction by Guns N'Roses. While many of Channel 4's older viewers may never have heard of OK Computer the 1997 album attracted plaudits from stars.
REM singer Michael Stipe said: "OK Computer is Radiohead really stretching and pushing the boundaries of what they think they're capable of doing and what their audience think they're capable of doing and it is a classic, brilliant record."
And Johnny Marr from The Smiths said: "OK Computer is pretty much a landmark record. As time goes on and we get away from when it was released, more and more it would be seen as the important record it is."
Despite losing the top spot, The Beatles are the only band to claim two albums in the top ten - Revolver also was made the cut.
Michael Jackson, who faces child abuse charges in the US, showed he was still popular with Thriller reaching number four.
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher was typically immodest about Definitely Maybe's success.
He said: "To me, that album is about what it means to other people and other people have said it was a benchmark for British guitar rock and roll. It must be pretty good.
"I'm only realising now how special Definitely Maybe is - I thought I'd go on writing albums like that forever." He also praised U2's Joshua Tree.

surprising moments so far:
-finding out shaun ryder is now orange
-revelation that David Gilmour discovered kate bush
-channel 4 using the program to spout left wing political views over the iraq war (WTF?)
(btw webby i dont think this poll has anything to do with the daily mail- i assume they just featured an article on it)

grahh im sick of nirvana being up there all the time!!! they're OVERATED!!! yet they seem to consistently do well in these polls....... i dont agree with things like coldplay being ahead of morning glory and nevermind being ahead of any oasis albums but the fact is these polls arent voted for by little girls or house wives, its voted by ppl who have a similar sort of music taste to us lot, so i dont understand y ppl get too pissed of about were certain albums come
