Oasis are back with their first single in three years and, as might be suspected, it's rather underwhelming. It doesn't go anywhere, is a little bit monotonous and sounds like you'd expect Oasis to sound like. Having said that, it's the best thing Oasis have done for quite a while. Production is big, with heavy drums and a pounding rhythm section which is by far the best, and most striking, thing about it. The chorus has a good little hook, though, and it’s a song that could grow on you if you let it. Is it enough, though? Probably. Oasis are as predictable as this review and this single isn’t strong enough to make anyone’s hair stand on end in the same way as any of the songs on their first couple of albums. It’s slightly catchy, slightly musical and has a slight impact. It is, in a word, a ‘nice’ song. Oasis fans probably won’t care and this will probably be chanted by beered-up goons in Ben Sherman shirts up and down the land upon it’s release. It’s somewhat churlish to complain about Oasis being Oasis, though. It’s what they do best and you can’t ignore the fact that their weak guitar rock formula has been rather successful for them. It’s not a song to hate or love, but rather a song that just sits there. What more would you expect? www.cdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=1743

Lyla is underwhelming by like, OASIS standards. I mean, compared to like, Live Forever, Slide Away, etc.
But then again, compared to like, "yo yo you bitches niggaz yo yo yo let me hear you say hoooooooooooooooo," it's actually pretty good.

i can see his point. it didnt blow me away, but it its a good song. and yeah i agree with wash25...it is BY FAR better than most of the other shite songs released, so mainstream audiences should feel blessed for lyla's arrival. and he is right, it does grow on you if you let it.
the rest of the review goes downhill and is negatively slanted...i so dont agree with the whole weak guitar formula? as if all their other songs are all average or soemthing!!! implying that they are famous for no good reason. i think not!!! -.- the idiot.

I bet you I have better academic qualifications than him and his entire family put together. And I dont own a ben sherman shirt either. this is the perfect example of a quintessential anti-oasis reviewer and he even admits to it Is it enough, though? Probably. Oasis are as predictable as this review what's coming should be rather predictable then... the reviewer is a dickless wonder.

Maybe the reviewer is just pissed/jealous that Oasis fans can blast their songs in their cars and go to their concerts without having to wear bullet-proof vests? LOL

The band were always leaving themselves open to reviews like this, especially from obvious cynics like this bloke.
It's probably the most brain-dead, straight-forward rock n roll song they've done, no bad thing, but at a time when everyone's into this art-rock 80s revival thing, some people will be shooting it down.
The best thing is, all the early reviews point to a fresh, different sounding album from Oasis. It's obvious people like this bloke are expecting an album full of Lyla's and they are going to be sadly mistaken. Oh i'd love to see his face when he sticks the new record on.

OASIS ans reviews just dont mix....they are ending up like zep in that regard...just about everything zep did was slagged off by the beatle stones dylan loving press cause they were jealous of zeps enormous poularity ,they said they appeal to kids and they were not in the class of the others even though they outsold all in the chart wars ,,not the beatles. then when they bdisbanded and were no longer a threat the reviews all were great in retrospect , its like this if chris martin and noel write the same song with the same lyrics the reviews for the tune as a coldplay record would be great but as a OASIS record it would be predictable,boring...sad but thats the case

hey I like Lyla loads but I still think that review is spot on. Its like with SOTSOG, I though they should have released gas panic first to blow people away - no one's surprised anymore when they release a fairly straightforward rock/pop tune, they're generally just dissapointed that it aint as good as live forever et al.
Basically what I mean is if Lyla is only the '7th best track on the album' as we keep hearing, then WHY NOT RELEASE THE BEST FUCKING TRACK THEN

Noel has been overruled before, Little By Little was supposed to be a bside, instead it was on HC and was a single. And that worked out for the best, because we got some crackin live performances of it.
And as for Lyla....I love it, now. The problem is I had to hear it a few times first...and that doesn't bode well for a single.

"And if that mockingbird don't sing and that ring don't shine I'mma break that birdies neck" these are lyrics from the leading song on american charts (or one of them) yes eminem, you are a real badass, breaking a birds neck, this is writning folks lyla is better than 99% of the stuff out there, just not the oasis stuff...we oasis fans are damned by the band's greatness, but i love the song and i am glad that it sounds fresh, while still sounding like their earlier stuff, which is a great sign for the album
