You guys whine too much. I think you guys want another album to sound just like one of the earlier ones.
Well I don't want that. I've never heard quite that type of Oasis song. I really like Lyla. It feels very fresh, but also very good.
Part of the reason you all say it'll never be no Roll with it is because you're nostalgic from first hearing Roll with it. It's become part of you. You love it very deeply and are attached. You haven't had any chance to become attached to Lyla. Back with Morning Glory Oasis was new and only had like 20 songs released. So there was still much area to be explored. So Morning Glory had a huge impact.
And you guys have huge expectations. You're expecting something huge that's going to give you the same feeling as Morning Glory. It doesnt work like that. Oasis isn't a brand new band anymore.
Lyla is a great track. It's fresh. It sounds great. It grows. It's catchy. I love it. Granted, it's not as good as supersonic or Live Forever, but it's still a great tune. I'd say it's comparable with Roll With it. It could be a bit heavier, but I really do like Lyla.
I can't wait for the new album. It really is fantastic.
Take it for what it is, and don't compare to early stuff. That's not lowering expectations-- you're just letting nostalgic thoughts and attachment to other songs let them make them better than they actually are. With no experience or at all past with Lyla before, you're giving it a very unfair chance.

With no experience or at all past with Lyla before, you're giving it a very unfair chance. Some good points there - you may be right about the nostalgia thing. However, having listened to Lyla a good 30 times or so I've gone from being really disappointed to liking it and now I sort of feel mild disappointment. I would probably agree with whoever said it's not as strong as any of the previous first singles - not even since Be Here Now (ie DYKWIM? Go Let It Out, The Hindu Times). The main thing I want to hear in an Oasis tune is catchy melodies, that's what they do best IMO, and whilst I definitely think Lyla is a grower, it just still doesn't quite grab me as much as past stuff and feels a bit half-finished to me. When you look at the fact that a band like The Stereophonics, who I don't think are a patch on at-their-peak Oasis, came back with a tune like Dakota I just feel it could have been better. But I still have hopes for the album, especially as Noel said this was one they added at the last minute and it's only about the fifth best song on the album (it would have been great as an album track). I'm now expecting the album to be pretty ballad-y, seeing as they needed to dust Lyla down so they could put out a rockier song for the first single.

Clearly Lyla isn't as good as supersonic or live forever, and I don't think anything ever will be...
But it IS a good tune, fresh sounding... although it leaves you wanting a little more, its catchy and is something that non-fans can easily get into.
Just gotta wait for the studio produced Lyla... cos I'm not sure if the radioplay is a studio produced version... its very lacking in sound, and seems like something Oasis wouldn't do... kinda feels like its missing something
but nonetheless its still a great song coming back from sotsog and hc

It's catchy tune and I really think that it's growing. Yet, it's very different from anthing I've ever heard of Oasis... Kinda psychedlic. But very nice, nonetheless.

lyla is an unispiring dull little song which would have been dropped ten years ago if it had have been around then. Lyla was dropped this time around. The song is only in the album so it can be the 1st single, and this song is a GOOD 1st single (commercial wise).

I never listen to Supersonic any more. Ever. It's one of their classics because it's one of their first. People are saying no one would have liked Lyla if it had been released in 1995, I don't think anyone would like Supersonic if it was released in 2005.
I can't stand Roll With It. In my opinion, Lyla is miles better.
Lyla ain't no Live Forever and it ain't no D'You Know What I mean, but it's better than those two.

lyrically Lyla isn't as good as Live Forever, Supersonic or Cigs n Alcohol. But like someone else said i think that cos those mentioned songs were Oasis' earlier stuff it is over time that they have become 'classics'. No song to start off with is an instant classic. But Lyla is a good fuckin tune, and Liam's voice is probably at it's best in the song, since Def Maybe. sometimes B-sides are better than the A-sides...so would be interesting so see what would have been it's a-side, had Lyla of been a b-side. hmm

fuck! i wish it was a b-side. still, their strength as a band is the gigs to me and i have my tickets for months now. lyla is an unispiring dull little song which would have been dropped ten years ago if it had have been around then. if that was a new band releasing that track it would sell less than a posh spice song! Bingo! Winner, winner chicken dinner! My thoughts exactly. Still, I'll get stoned and go and watch them but I won't bring a date.
