Well, I just couldn't go to bed tonight without chipping in with my opinion of Lyla and a couple things I've been mulling over for the past few hours. I listened to a medium-quality radio rip while I was working out tonight, and I must say it was a great foot-stomper. Every time I listen to it, I hear something new -- the little drum licks, and the bells and the piano in the last half of the song in particular. In some ways, a new sound for Oasis, but in others, the same sort of stuff we've loved for over a decade. Lyla has it all -- triumphant, boisterous chorus, hearalding guitar riffs, lyrics made for singing along, sailing on a sea of harmonious keyboards and rhythm -- and don't get me started on Liam's voice. It sounds fucking fantastic. I want to cheer every time I hear him hit the "feel" in the 2nd line of the chorus. It doesn't just grow on you... it hooks you like crack, keeps you coming back for more, like the repeat button is the only way to get my fix. I wish the ending went on and on... I can see them playing it live for ten fucking minutes, just wailing on with the stomping chorus over and over, drawing out a guitar solo (please, Noel, I'm begging!), and possibly a neat little segue into the next song? That brings me to my first point... does it sound to anyone else like the ending of Lyla might connect somehow to another song, the next song on the album? The piano and the change in beat seems to suggest that a little... Secondly, can't you just hear this song appearing on a movie soundtrack? I can't think of many songs in the recent past that feel so uplifting and all-encompassing, and do it all with the credibility of a band like Oasis. I wouldn't be surprised to hear it during an advert for a new flick, or anything for that matter. I think by the time the album comes out, we'll be hearing "Lyla" all over the place. Well, that's my impression. Take it or leave it, but don't doubt I LOVE it If you haven't heard a really high-quality rip of the song, I highly suggest it. You miss a LOT of the song's depth with the low and medium quality recordings floating around.

it's definately a single, I love every bit of it. I was scared that it wouldn't be any good but they never let me down. It's going to be another oasis classic I can already see it. Just the fact that it is a song that grows on you then your hooked for more and more!

I hope the ending gets played on the radio because it is F*cking brilliant. It really feels like it's building up to the chorus again, with all the different sounds coming in and it speeding up, and then just stops. It really leaves you wanting more. Expecting the chorus and then not getting it. I want it again! Knowing most radio though they will cut it off.

I thought the ending was ok - the first time I was listening to it I was wondering how they were going to end it - suddenly - or more slowly like they did - in the end I wasn't that fond of the ending and think they will cut it off -but still THEY'RE BACK BABY, THEY'RE BACK, BRING ON THE ALBUM ! NOW - LET'S HAVE IT AND THE NEXT ONE AND THE NEXT ONE - AND THE NEXT ONE - DON'T EVER STOP! even their worst albums are a cut above, can't fucking wait, let's have it!

Great fucking track. I wish the solo was longer, and I wish it was a bit louder too-- that'd do it good.
But it's excellent and I love the ending.
