For them to have such a weak Greatest Hits album is evidence if it was ever needed that the Oasis v Blur war was a media creation because song for song its an unfair fight - metaphorically its like George Foreman having a fight with yer gran. Another thing as well was how disappointing the Rollling Stones '40 Licks' was... If that is the best 40 songs they have, its no surprise The Beatles wiped the floor with them. CD1 is quality but CD 2 on the whole is very weak indeed. Also, Queen's Triple Greatest Hits album - Fucking awful for a band considered by many to be one of the greatest bands of all time. Same criticism of them as I have of the Stones - some weak, weak songs that are almost a parody of themselves. Even The Beatles '1' album that sold 25m copies worldwide isnt a fair reflection of their work. Some absolute classics are missing. On the other hand, Led Zep's Greatest Hits (early days, latter days) is brilliant - really shows how great they were/ still are. An Oasis Greatest Hits Triple Album Box Set would be amazing - 50 songs (min) and it would be fucking amazing from track 1-50 as well. Good thread - Nice one Kalas ;D

I had a new found respect for Damon Albarn until he released some more shite by Gorillaz!! Plus I think the Kaiser Chiefs do the cheeky chappy quintessential english way of life thing better than Blur EVER did.

is think tank worth the money? i never bought a blur regular cd I really liked it. Its not like anything they did before. It was an album that I was recommending after I'd bought it. Id chose it over their 'Greatest Hits' any day of the week. www.metacritic.com/music/artists/blur/thinktankTons of reviews and opinions on it. Hope that helps

If I look at the tracklisting for that Blur greatest hits album: 1. Beetlebum 2. Song 2 3. There's No Other Way 4. The Universal 5. Coffee & TV 6. Parklife 7. End Of A Century 8. No Distance Left To Run 9. Tender 10. Girls And Boys 11. Charmless Man 12. She's So High 13. Country House 14. To The End 15. On Your Own 16. This Is A Low 17. For Tomorrow (Visit To Primrose Hill Extended) 18. Music Is My Radar
I would have to say I LIKE the majority of the songs on there and I LOVE four of them (Beetlebum, End Of A Century, To The End, On Your Own) but I love way more Oasis songs than Blur tunes.
I just think there's something a bit cold about Blur, a bit artificial.
It makes me mad when Oasis get slagged off for being "dumb, Beatles-rip off rock that only lager louts are into" because that is such a sweeping generalisation it's not even true.
They have done some really emotional songs - but when Oasis do them they are genuine and with real soul in them, if you like.
It's fine to do loads of experimental music but if it's shit then you're just doing it for the sake of it (Damon, Thom).
I don't mind Blur but their fans, and Radiohead fans, and most other fans, enjoy looking down their noses at Oasis which pisses me right off.
As a great man once said - "We'll see things they'll never see."

That greaest hits disc doesn't do anything for me, let alone any greatest hits cd. I really like Blur's album Modern Life is Rubbish alot. IMO its their best album.

Blur is great, but I don't really see where the rivalry came from. Even during the Britpop days, their songs sound nothing like Oasis'.
Funny you didn't like their greatest hits CD - that's what made me a Blur fan and I think it holds up better than a lot of their albums.
I think Blur has been more consistent over a longer period of time and they've more musically adventurous than Oasis. But their albums have always been somewhat inconsistent. Parklife for instance is 2/3 great but 1/3 crap.
I also agree that I really liked Think Tank. I'll probably get roasted alive for this, but to be honest I like Think Tank better than Heathen Chemistry - it's a really beautiful record. Very different, slight traces of electronica, very little guitar, but very beautiful. I listen to it quite often.
I've introduced some of my friends to Blur and one thing I can say is that for many people, they'll only like 1 or 2 Blur albums b/c they switched style so much. For instance, you may love Think Tank, but that's no indication that you'll like Parklife.
