GN Music: You probably get asked this a lot, but where did the name Kaiser Chiefs come from? RW: When we were thinking of the name we wanted to think of something that hasn't been done before, something that sets us apart…a memorable name. And when we were looking for a name, we went through loads of names because you've always got one band member that's not gonna be happy with it, you know. Kaiser Chiefs was the first thing suggested to us that we all kind of thought was alright. And then we found out that the Kaiser Chiefs are a soccer team for South Africa. We didn't know it at the time. And also, one of their players now plays for Leeds United, and we're from Leeds, so we thought, well…<br> IGN Music: Weird set of coincidences. RW: It's a great coincidence! The thing is, with any name, saying it all the time…after a bunch of gigs it's just words after a while. No one thinks about where it came from, you know what I mean? I mean, no thinks about the Red Hot Chili Peppers, that's a terrible name, but no one thinks about how it came about. Oasis, worst name in the world, it's a thing in the desert, or in the U.K. it's a chain of shoe shops!music.ign.com/articles/599/599235p1.html?fromint=1

I love the name Oasis. Plus, it's such a cool feature in a desert anyway.

Kalas is right, taht is not slagging offf oasis. Ricky, or whoever it was, was saying simply that the name is dumb because it symbolizes just like water in a desert, or alternatively, a shoe store, BUT THAT that doesn't matter because it just becomes words in the end. Now, he is wrong. THe symbolism of water, when you need it most, refreshment, in a desert is very striking. ie - amid all the crap music there is salvation etc. But taht's not why they chose it, they chose it because it sounds really cool and it looks really cool. (a lot better than Rain)
I suppose at most he was slagging off their name, but saying that it didn't matter in any case.

Exactly - just like "noel slags off coldplay" and all he said was, well I don't remember but it was not slagging them off AT ALL.

In fact, not at all. Their music is really different to Oasis - although I really like it. I've interviewed the Kaisers a few times and they're really nice guys so this topic is a bit misleading because as someone else said, they're not slagging Oasis off at all. The singer, Ricky, has actually said he's nervous about meeting Liam because he doesn't know what to expect. The only people I've heard the Kaisers slag off is Robbie Williams and Daniel Bedingfield. And there's nothing wrong with that

Who gives a toss what they think? It's a quality name for starters, and even if it wasn't it'd still be about the music; which is why Oasis are playing a fucking huge summer tour and Kaiser Chiefs will be lucky if they ever manage to scrape together enough cash to buy something bigger than a bedsit.
