It's a decent song, but to be entirely honest, I never quite understood people saying it was one of their best.
I enjoy it, but whenever I listen to it I can't help but think it sounds like a rewrite of "Don't Go Away" and "Slide Away" with elements of "Wonderwall" thrown in. It just seems so derivative in its sound. It's chorus is basically the chorus to "Slide Away," slowed down. And the tune just seems so.. mawkish.
Am I missing something?

The melody and the chorus are great. I just think that the lyrics for the verses are horrible. Same with LBL. It seems that Noel's songwriting has become weaker within the last few years.

A good song to not expect anything from. When I play something like Live Forever or Slide Away I almost know for sure I'm gonna get goosebumps but this one is a bit different. If you hear it as you're listening to the album or just have it on without thinking about it it can sort of creep up on you.

I think SCYHO is one of the best songs Noel has written in years.

Well i'm actually listening to the song now...
I love the piano at the beginning and i feel that it is a very powerful song... it's a very unusual song, i can't listen to it unless i am in the mood (although at the moment i'm just doing it to remind myself of the song). I have so many live versions sometimes i forget the album version!
Anyway... back to the song:
It's very much like the 'new' Oasis. It's not really rock and roll but not quite 'All Around the World' It's halfway between rock and roll and an epic such as 'All Around the World'
Very typical of Heathen Chemistry Oasis, it seems quite complex adn has a lot of composure as opposed to earlier Oasis songs which just had the 3 chords, chorus, back to those... solo over the top (not that there is anything wrong with that). It's a good song in itself but i don't think it should have been a single personally.

first off, scyho is one of my favourite songs of all time. and i cant really tell you why. it just is. which is the best thing you can say for a song.
and yeah sure the melody is derivative of slide away and the first time i heard it i couldn't shake that no doubt song or that supertramp song out of my head as they both started the same way...
and the first time i heard masterplan it made me sing stairway to heaven and the first time i heard go let it out it sounded like an exact copy of fade in-out
and money for nothing sounds like the same riff from jumping jack flash which is just a little brother to satisfaction
and lennon used the exact same production for mind games as he used for a harry nillsson song from pussy cats...
and noel copped the riff for hindu times from the stereophonics...
and all brian wilson ever really did, in the early days, was marry the four lads with chuck berry
and robert johnson's songs all have the same structure
and the inkspots used the same opening bass notes for ALL of their songs
and music is so much of what you feel.
and i know for myself, that it doesn't get much better then stop crying your heart out.
end of rant. and fuck off.

i love lbl lyrics! anyway, i love scyho, but its definitely not one of oasis best songs "We the people fight for our existance..." What kind of rubbish is that? Its like hes trying to hard to sound important. There was always a good sense of humor in the early stuff and thats what I miss the most. "Shes got dirty dishes on the brain." Thats what I miss.

Thats what I miss. i hear what your sayin...BUT its not rubbish its called getting older....he still trys to write lyrics a bit like the early years "i get up when im down"... but if NOEL could only write lyrics like "shes got dirty dishes on the brain" at 36 he would be retired cause as a songwriter if you dont grow you quit or fade away and I DONT want that happenin to the cheif just yet....jmo

It's sad but times change so if you want to stay on top you do too. But, lucky for us Noel hasn't sold out like many pop writers, that's oxymoron now days isn't it, anyway Noel may not be "funny" as much as he once was but as a songwriter he has matured a lot and he now has a lot of medafors and alitteration in his songs, "Sailing on a Sea of Swet on a Stormy night, Noel's writing is art in it's turest form, and we as listeners are blessed to have Mr. Gallagher.
Thank you God
