IF you had any doubts of this, just look at the madness that has been around the tickets for the forthcoming Oasis and U2 tours! Let's hope this brings us some new rock n'roll bands ala Oasis or Guns N'Roses. OMG how I miss those days when rock ruled the world... Comments on this!

I don't really see it happening. If we're talking about the tip top mainstream I think it will remain pop, rap, R&B, and major label's poor misrepresentations of other styles for quite some time, if not forever. The second tier of names will have it's times with rock and roll here and there, but it's never gonna be larger than life again. With all the indie snobs and mainstream lemmings holding it back I just don't see it. Don't really care anyhow. We'd all have more in common with our peers, which would be great, but it would also mean a harder time getting tickets and some wanker every ten blocks singing Stop The Clocks and getting the words wrong so I'm happy with the way it is now.

I agree it's gonna difficult to remove that rap and hip hop crap from the mainstream for the next...let's say 5/10 years, but hey, we all know that the mainstream is defined by eras, the rock N'roll power era ended in the mid 90's with the appearence of boys/girls bands but even they are long gone by now. Plus, the mainstream is what the public wants and this madness caused by old rockn'roll bands going on tour (Queen+ is another example) is a refection of what we want! So I think that this is a beginning of something good, with more Rock N'roll on TV and radios. Having said that, let's also hope that Oasis will stay between us for the next 30 years with more 10/15 great albums.

And while we have Oasis,we can always dream of another DM or WTSMG ;D and I can always dream of teh day that I will see them live

I thought this might have happened back in 2002 when there was a ton of new albums released:
Oasis, Black Crowes, STP, Weezer, RHCP, Silverchair, the rumoured new GNR album etc.. But it didn't happen. There just aren't enough good rock bands out there for this to happen right now. I wish it would but I don't see it. Sorry.

the stones havent made a good lp since 81 s tattoo you..they just keep rehashin old stuff that dont sound as good as the old tunes I dunno. I thought Voodoo Lounge and Bridges To Babylon were still pretty good and I got into those when I was in my mid teens and I still play them every now and then. And if you look at the odd recent Aerosmith song, like Pink, they're still having their moments. Looking at Idler's Dream and the improvements Liam's made with his songwriting I believe Noel and Liam will age very well musically. One of the surest signs that Oasis will be around that long and still making quality stuff could be how experimental this record will be.

if you want my practical opinion:
i think too that the world really wants some rock and roll too. although if rock and roll becomes the dominant force in music again its gonna be really different. just look at the killers and franz ferdinand. i think that alot of garage band type groups won't be the force that reinstates rock as the superior force again for a while. there have been alot of good artists and albums that are of that genre, but hasn't helped alot;pop music and rap is still dominating.
if you want my not so practical opinion:
really what it all comes down to i think is attitude. there hasnt been any great bands with a great attitude. these kids coming out these days are all nice clean cut boys and girls from upper-middle class backgrounds. they're all police men to quote noel. they all claim they're "too busy" to drink and party and raise hell. about the edgiest thing they do it lash out at president bush (which they only do in the press and not in their music) or encourage illegal downloading. thats why bands like u2, green day and oasis who have (or depending on yer opinion, had) a great attitude, are so popular. and these bands have been around for decades and already proven themselves.its kinda depressing for my generation who looks up to oasis green day and u2 as their idols, but they were in their hayday when we were really young. i believe we're a faceless generation. i know somebody is gonna refute that, but lets be honest here; we havent had a single solidary great band. the bands that look to me like they're gonna be the closest, jet and the darkness, while they are great are just taking from older bands

really what it all comes down to i think is attitude. there hasnt been any great bands with a great attitude. DITTO DITTO DITTO That's exactly what I think. The thing of Rock N'Roll has always been and it always be the attitude. And that's what these kids do not have nowadays.. I'm always thinking to myself, if I had a good voice or a great guitar or drums ability my band would be bigger than most out there, simply because of the attitude! The world was thrilled with Oasis back in 95 cos they had the attitude! It all comes down to the attitude indeed. My point here, is that this ticket-madness we are witnessing is a sign that the world misses REAL Rock N'Roll and maybe, just maybe, this will be the beginning of something good
